This is the second time I have purchased this product for my horses to help build their topline and to help one horse that is recovering from EPM>

While I generally like Vita-Flex products, I am disappointed with this one. Vitamin E is an important antioxidant, especially for horses with Shivers like my draft horse. I bought this product because the name E-5000 suggests that it contains 5000 IU of Vitamin E per serving. It does not, it contains 2500 IU per serving, you have to double it up to get to the 5000 IU threshold. In addition, Vita-Flex is careful to avoid mentioning the source of the Vitamin E as well as the fact that it is NOT natural Vitamin E, it is synthetic. Synthetic E is far less bioavailable than natural E, making this product virtually useless for my boy, who NEEDS 10,000 IU of Vitamin E per DAY to keep his Shivers symptoms at bay. Some studies suggest that dl-alpha-tocopherols (the synthetic Vitamin E), are not absorbed AT ALL, while others have suggested nominal absorption as low as 1:100 of natural Vitamin E). In other words, put your hard-earned money toward a Vitamin E supplement that will actually benefit your horse's body, like Elevate or SmartSimple Vitamin E, or Nano-E. Just make sure whatever you choose is natural (look for d-alpha-tocopherols specifically)! My horse suffered a backslide because I tried to save a few bucks a month. Please don't make the same mistake I did at your horse's expense!

I had a horse who was not technically deficient but came back around 210 ug/dL on his blood work which is still on the lower end of normal. I added one scoop of this to his smartpak and after two months we retested and got the same result. Although this is advertised as palatable, I think the horse may be eating around the powder and not getting the full dose. Either that or it just doesn’t work.

Look closely at the ingredients. The source of vitamin E is synthetic not natural. When it is synthetic is not very bioavailable. This type may be less expensive but why spend money on a supplement when it will not be effective. Take a look at UC Davis write up on vitamin E for equine.

Purchased this for a horse with EPM. Easy to double dose and picky eater approved!

I have been using this on my horses for 2 yrs now it helps them keep top line on.

Have a older gelding that was haveing trouble getting around,had been using MSN for a time and that helped some . A friend told me about E-5000, started giveing it to him and within a week noticed a big improvement. A good product is worth the try.
