Description

Please note that the product information displayed is provided by manufacturers, suppliers and other third parties and is not independently verified by Petco.

Vetmedin (Pimobendan) is in a class of heart treatments named "inodilators" used in the management of certain types of congestive heart failure in dogs. These medications increase the heart muscle's ability to pump blood. Vetmedin increases the ability of the heart muscle to contract and also open up the blood vessels taking blood to and away from the heart. This reduces the heart's workload as it pumps blood throughout the dog's body. Specifically used for the management of the signs of mild, moderate, or severe congestive heart failure in dogs. The safety of pimobendan has not been evaluated in dogs younger than 6 months of age.

  • - Intended to increase life expectancy in dogs with heart failure
  • - Reduces stress on the heart muscle
  • - A new clinical approach vs. other medications

I got my first delivery of this recurring prescription. While the initial processing took longer than I anticipated, I am sure there will be no further lag time. My only complaint goes to the pill manufacterer that devised a bottle count of this medication that is outside of the standard 30, 60, 90 count. Why did the manufacturer do this? Which each delivery I have to reinsert the next delivery date.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Our dog is 14 y/o and is very peppy. He doesn’t like the taste of this, so we crush it and roll it into a pill pocket. He only takes 1/2 tab and it’s too big for the capsule size pill pockets. Our dog weighs about 11 pounds.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 3 of 3 Questions

Dose this work on mage ?

  1. No it does not work on mange or mage.. It was given to my 18yr old Cocker Spaniel for congestive heart failure. This is a prescription drug issued by your vet

Is it OK to give this medication in liquid form in an eye dropper and what will it do if not I have trouble getting my dog to chew or eat The pill

  1. I would confirm with your vet about using liquid form and eyedropper. It sounds ok but check with them. What I did for my dog when he had trouble eating the large pill, is I mashed it in low fat cream cheese. OR, you can ask your vet about the compounded formula of pimobendin. It is a super super small pill-same medicine. That's what my vet said.  I hope this helps! By the way, I mashed the pills with a metal meat tenderizer. It's so easy.

Can I divide one tablet into 4 portions?

  1. Yes, but portions will not be perfect.  The pill is scored, so breaking in half is easy. You can use a sharp knife to break into 1/4.
