Description

Please note that the product information displayed is provided by manufacturers, suppliers and other third parties and is not independently verified by Petco.

Vetmedin (Pimobendan) is in a class of heart treatments named "inodilators" used in the management of certain types of congestive heart failure in dogs. These medications increase the heart muscle's ability to pump blood. Vetmedin increases the ability of the heart muscle to contract and also open up the blood vessels taking blood to and away from the heart. This reduces the heart's workload as it pumps blood throughout the dog's body. Specifically used for the management of the signs of mild, moderate, or severe congestive heart failure in dogs. The safety of pimobendan has not been evaluated in dogs younger than 6 months of age.

  • - Intended to increase life expectancy in dogs with heart failure
  • - Reduces stress on the heart muscle
  • - A new clinical approach vs. other medications

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

The price is lower than most places, especially with repeat orders, and I receive my medications on time every month. Also, when my prescription ran out, they notified me and got it refilled until I could see the doctor. This medication is important for my little girl to take - it helps with her heart functions, and she is almost 91 years old. I will keep ordering from Petco. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Yes, I recommend this product.

If you live in a hot area you might want to consider buying this medication elsewhere. This medication has to be stored between 68°-77°F and there are no assurances that this product will remain in that range. For me, it was roasting hot outside when it arrived so the medication was worthless. The first time I bought this, I didn't realize the medication had to be within a certain temperature range so I gave it to my pet and he eventually began feeling short of breath. I ended up getting the product elsewhere and he has returned to his usual self. Since I had this product on autoship I actually ended up getting a second order but I did manage to get a refund. There are a lot of positive reviews on here so maybe buying from this site may be a good option if you live in a more moderate climate. Just make sure to monitor your pet and make sure they aren't having any worsening symptoms and contact your vet if you have any concerns.

No, I do not recommend this product.

A lifesaver for my Chihuahua

This medication has helped my 11 year old Chihuahua for the past 4 years. It has improved her heart function from moderate to a normal function. Her cardiologist and myself are very happy with my dog's latest results. It has kept her alive and has kept her from Congestive heart failure.

Yes, I recommend this product.

What is the approximate size of these tablets?

  1. Larger than a traditional gel cap is. They easily break in half. I wrap it in cheese when my Yorkie is being fussy but she will usually eat it as is which is impressive since she doesn’t have many teeth.

My vet just put my 15 lb shih tzu on enalapril and she won’t eat a thing and feels awful. This stuff sounds way better! Is it similar to enalapril?   Thank you

  1. Sorry to hear your for baby isn’t feeling well and much luck for a solution soon. I would definitely encourage you to talk to your veterinarian about the Enalapril side effects & differences in medications. My understanding is that that Vetmedin and Enalapril are completely separate classifications of medications that do different things for the heart; my Shih Tzu actually takes both.Sorry to hear your for baby isn’t feeling well and much look for a solution soon.

Can I order the 2.5 mg for the 1.25 mg, which are out of stock and divide them into fourths? I would give our dog 1/4 in the morning and 1/4 in the evening. Will this work?

  1. My Chihuahua is also on 1.25mg. I've purchased the 5mg and cut into fourths when the vet was out of stock, but it also saved me some money. Just a thought!

Are these tablets scored so that they can be easily broken in half?

  1. Yes they are.
