Vetmedin (Pimobendan) is in a class of heart treatments named "inodilators" used in the management of certain types of congestive heart failure in dogs. These medications increase the heart muscle's ability to pump blood. Vetmedin increases the ability of the heart muscle to contract and also open up the blood vessels taking blood to and away from the heart. This reduces the heart's workload as it pumps blood throughout the dog's body. Specifically used for the management of the signs of mild, moderate, or severe congestive heart failure in dogs. The safety of pimobendan has not been evaluated in dogs younger than 6 months of age.

The portions should be administered 12 hours apart (i.e., morning and evening). The tablets are scored and dosage should be provided to the nearest half tablet increment. Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. If you have difficulty giving the medication, contact your veterinarian. can i crush vetmedin and mix it with a small amount of food
What's the lowest weight a dog can be on the 1.25 mg of vetmedin. At what weight would the dosage have to be lowered? My dog is 10 pounds and dropping due to pancreatitis most likely but is still on the 1.25 mg of vetmedin.
Can Vetmedin (pimobendan) capsules be opened and sprinkled into food? The capsules are quite large for my dog to swallow and I can't find a monograph indicating whether the capsule is immediate release or sustained/extended release.

My 10 LB dog got two doses of vetmedin this morning. Instead of 1/2 of 2.5 tab she received 1/2 from both of us should we be concerned?
My cat is currently taking Vetmedin (twice daily), Furosemide, Enalapril and Clopidogrel for a recent HCM diagnosis. The insert included in the Vetmedin box states it's to be given on an empty stomach 1 hr before food but it seems like the pill upsets his stomach without food. Is it okay to give a small amount of food with the Vetmedin 1.25mg dose? Or am I able to avoid waiting the full hour and feed him his meal sooner? He does take his other medication with food following the Vetmedin dose.
our dog has been prescribed vetmedin but we have run out of tablets will he be OK without them for two days
Pillsbury is a 3 year old 70 lb pitbull boxer mix that was diagnosed last week with right-sided congestive heart failure. At the appointment, they tapped his stomach and withdrew about half a gallon of liquid so he's now down to 62. Since Monday, he's been prescribed Vetmedin (5mg) and Enacard (5mg). It's been several days now and his heart rate is consistebtly between 152-160 beats per minute in resting state, accompanied by heavy breathing. Is this normal as a side effect of the medication?
By mistake, I swollowed a 5mg Vetmedin caps which I give to my dog for heart problems. Am I in danger Am a 68 yr old man
Hello, my dog jut ate my other dogs vetmedin. She's a small Boston terrier somewhere between 13-16 pounds. She at 2.5 mgs
My dog is currently on Vetmedin 1.25mg every 12 hours and Enalapril 1.25mg every 12 hours. He has been on these medications for about 1 and half months and has recently had a few fainting spells. He has an enlarged heart and has a heart murmur. His vet recommended us giving him a half dosage of Vetmedin in between the 12 hours would you recommend this? What are signs that he is getting too much?
