Description

Please note that the product information displayed is provided by manufacturers, suppliers and other third parties and is not independently verified by Petco.

Vetmedin (Pimobendan) is in a class of heart treatments named "inodilators" used in the management of certain types of congestive heart failure in dogs. These medications increase the heart muscle's ability to pump blood. Vetmedin increases the ability of the heart muscle to contract and also open up the blood vessels taking blood to and away from the heart. This reduces the heart's workload as it pumps blood throughout the dog's body. Specifically used for the management of the signs of mild, moderate, or severe congestive heart failure in dogs. The safety of pimobendan has not been evaluated in dogs younger than 6 months of age.

  • - Intended to increase life expectancy in dogs with heart failure
  • - Reduces stress on the heart muscle
  • - A new clinical approach vs. other medications

It's working for my dog.

I noticed that my dog was really starting to slow down on our daily walks (she would only make it half way so I'd have to carry her home) and she had a couple of fainting episodes and/or syncope episodes (this was 2 years ago) so I got her checked out and she was diagnosed with mitral valve disease. So my Veterinarian prescribed Vetmedin and she has only had one fainting episode (that I know of...) and she seems to have more energy on our walks. Well, I started having issues with the previous place that I ordered Vetmedin from so I switched to Petco this year and I have had no problems thus far. And as for the taking of the medication... My dog is a pro at detecting any kind of pill. I've tried hiding her beef flavored chewable flea medication (she is currently taking Bravecto) in pill pockets, a piece of hot dog, cheese, peanut butter, deli meat, etc., and she inevitably spits it out. The only thing that kind of works is breaking the tablet into pieces (the tablet is the size of a nickel) and hiding it in wet food. And I say, "kind of works" because she will spit out the pieces of pill that she detects. So I scoop up all the remaining pieces that she spit out and pour another container of food over the pill pieces and that usually works. Well, the Vetmedin pill is a hard tablet rather than a chewable so I was thinking, "Oh great, how am I going to get her to take this pill..." Well, the hard tablet was actually a godsend because I ordered a pill crusher and I pulverize the pill, sprinkle it on a teaspoon of wet food, mix it all together and it works like a charm.

Yes, I recommend this product.

My dog has degenerative heart disease. She likes the taste so it’s easy to give. I compared the price with others and this was the best deal with repeat delivery.

Life saver! In more ways than 1

This medicine is a life saver! Not only is it helping her aging heart it’s saving me a lot of the hassle I had before. I was using the liquid version and it was terrible. It smelled awful and it dripped/sweat everywhere. The syringe broke and the second one was starting to get stuck like the first one that broke. Then I had to hold my poor pup’s head to shoot it in her mouth, which sometimes I wasn’t sure if it went in completely. It stressed me out and she was too! Although, she loved the taste, but what a hassle to give! Now I break the pill into two parts so she can chew and eat it easier. She loves it and I have to only open the bottle break the pill with my hand and that’s it. No stress for either of us. Will be ordering more thanks!

No, I do not recommend this product.
