Utsuri Koi is a Japanese Strain that is black with red, white or yellow markings that semi-resembles a checkerboard. The black body is accompanied by one other color that is typically nor metallic. Koi can live 25 to 35 years (some even longer) in captivity if properly cared for and can get as large as 3 feet long, so they will need quite a large space made specifically for koi. Feeding multiple times, a day is recommended, since they are very active swimmers. Koi are very messy eaters, so be sure to monitor the water quality and perform water changes as needed. They will eat just about any pellet or flake that you offer, however, be sure the food has vegetable foods in it. Freshwater food with vegetables will help prevent swim bladder problems. They are considered diggers, so use caution when adding plants because they can get uprooted. Use large rocks to help keep the plants anchored down.

ACCLIMATION: Avoid exposing new aquatic life to bright lights after opening the box. Turn off aquarium lights prior to floating aquatic life. Allow the sealed bag with your new fish to float in your aquarium for at least 15 minutes (but no longer than one hour) to ensure the water in the bag matches the temperature in your aquarium. A bacteria booster addition can assist with the addition of new aquatic life. Petco offers free water testing in store to determine if your water is safe for the addition of new aquatic life. DIET: A well-balanced diet consists of a variety of flakes, pellets, freeze-dried and frozen foods, depending on the species. FEEDING: Feed sparingly and no more than fish can eat in 1-2 minutes. Overfeeding can quickly foul the water, especially in smaller aquariums.

My fish lived outside during the summer eating alge out of our pond. Now it's inside for the winter but it has developed a white growth on its forehead
One of my koi, was healthy, swimming around and eating on Tuesday afternoon at about 2:15 pm; at 2:40 pm he was found floating upside down at the side of the pond (1000 gallon pond with 3 koi and 2 goldfish) practically lifeless. We placed him in a separate tub of water with a bubbler for the rest of the afternoon. That night at about 9:00 pm he had righted himself and was slowly swimming around in the tub, so we returned him to the pond. What might have caused this situation?
I have new aquarium with few gold fish and milky white carp fish. Some skin problems is infecting in all my fishes like skin coming out. And all fishes are showing abnormal behavior. Please help me fr saving my fishes
My betta has red tips on his tail and my cat fish Cory has red spots as well
Hello, all my koi fish are becoming sick. They're demonstrating a behavior called flashing. No, they don't have visible parasites like anchor worm or fish lice so it had to a disease. Their fins are also getting torn up. They die from slowly becoming more and more inactive. Do you have any products that can help fight against this.
Why is my fish discoloring and turning black?
several of my pond goldfish have developed these growths. They are not in distress and feeding and behaving normally. I wondered if you had any idea what they could be. Vic, Clacton
One of my parrot cichlid has developed black eye which I don't seem to understand as to what is it exactly. Eye is swollen and a bit out of its socket. Previously it was white but now changing to black color. Due to this fish is hiding continuously and other fishes are pinching it.
Why does my marigold platy have black spots on its body
Hello. I have a female Koi Betta fish named Coral. I estimate she is about 8-9 months old. So far she is doing very good but for the past few days her color has faded and she has been near the top of the water and she has not been eating. I am not sure what is wrong with her but do you guys have suggestions for extra vitamins or different food. Thank you so much !
Betta fish has ick near its eye
Hi there, I'm not sure if this website applies to fish, but I don't have anyone in my area that can help. I have a gold nugget pleco and he eats veggies and driftwood all the time, has a large 55 gallon tank to himself and he has normal catfish habits-sleep during day, up at night. Anyways he was a beautiful black and gold but now his colour is fading... I looked it up and it means death (but he's eating and still very alive...). Is there anything you know about why else the colour could go?
