This item comes with two balls hanging from it, for cats to play with. One of the balls fell off while I opened the box. My cats paw kept getting stuck in string of second ball, then it fell off in less than 2 weeks.

It’s for a kitten more than for a full grown cat. Is not stable enough, so my 1 year old cat doesn’t like to rest on the top, he destroyed the hanging ball in the first week, he will scratch it and go into the hiding place in the bottom.

Easy to set up and cats love it - cozy enough for our 10 lb kitties and the scratching pad is a nice big size. Even our 50 lb pup likes to perch on it to see the outdoors! Also comes with another lighter covered cover.

Is it stable (does not collapse or slide around) when an adult cat uses the scratching post feature?

Quite stable. It doesn't try to collapse at all when our big cat is scratching. We have it on carpet and it doesn't slide. If it were on wood or tile floor it might slide. Our first one lasted through 2 cats and a couple years with great use. This is our 2nd one.
