Please note that the product information displayed is provided by manufacturers, suppliers and other third parties and is not independently verified by Petco.

This monthly oral pet med is used as a combination heartworm preventive and intestinal wormer. Tri-Heart Plus kills the immature form of the heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis), which is transmitted by a mosquito. It is also used for the treatment and control of hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum, A. brasiliense, and Uncinaria stenocephala) and roundworms (ascarids - Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina).

  • - Tasty medicine used for both heartworm prevention and intestinal worming
  • - Economical heartworm medication with the same active ingredients as Heartgard Plus
  • - Give year round for complete protection
  • - Most dogs like the taste of Tri-Heart Plus and will accept the chewable tablet as a treat

Tri-Heart Plus must be administered monthly, preferably on the same date each month. If given seasonally, the first dose must be given within 30 days of the dog's first exposure to mosquitoes. The last dose must be given within 30 days after the dog's last exposure to mosquitoes. Most dogs like the taste of Tri-Heart Plus and will accept the chewable tablet as a treat. The chewable should be administered in a manner that encourages the dog to chew, rather than to swallow without chewing. Tri-Heart Plus Chewables may be broken into pieces and fed to dogs that normally swallow treats whole. Care should be taken that the dog consumes the complete dose, and treated animals should be observed for a few minutes after administration to ensure that part of the dose is not lost or rejected. If not entirely consumed, give another full-recommended dose as soon as possible.

Cheaper option

Cheaper option to a heartworm preventative. I do not like how long it takes to get this prescription from Petco. You have to send the prescription through US mail. Why not allow us to scan it through your website? Seems like a more practical way to do things now a days.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Seems like they work. My dog loves taking them. She smacks her lips afterwards letting us know she is taken care of from the chewables and they were delicious.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Tri-Heart Plus does not work

Tri-Heart Plus by Merck does not work for roundworm. Our dog has tested positive two separate times while on it. Stick with HeartGard. It costs more but we've had no issues since we switched and no vet bills for infestation. Merck will not stand behind its guarantee when you try to get reimbursed for fecal tests and treatment. #MerckIsAWorm

Did not help my dog. Is not a "microfilaricide"

Merck guarantees this as a preventative, but our dog tested positive for heartworm after being on Tri-Heart, and had microfilariae (baby heartworms) in her blood. Other preventatives also act to kill the heartworm in this stage, and could have significantly improved her treatment process. This product didn't help our dog at all. We had to switch to another preventative in addition to the heartworm treatment that we needed, and Merck didn't qualify us for their product's guarantee.

No, I do not recommend this product.
