Nutritious food

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had dogs for over 30 years, currently my wife and I have 4 dogs from 20lbs - 80 lbs of various breeds and mixed rescues. We have used Honest Kitchen for the last 5 years primarily because of how bad kibble seems to be for dogs. Kibble is cooked at high temps to kill bacteria and dehydrate the food so It will store well and last, but by doing this they deplete all the natural nutritional value in the food and have to add back vitamins, minerals and fats so It has any nutritional value at all. All our pups seem to love the food, (we primarily use chicken) but have used other flavors in the past. All the pups seem well nourished, shiny coats and regular stools of normal consistency. I would recommend Honest Kitchen food for your dog, It is certainly not as economical as kibble, but I think in the long run it pays for itself with having a healthier dog. Kibble is kind of like fast food is to people, you can live on it, but at some point in you're life you're health will begin to suffer.

My goldens love it!

My golden retrievers love the honest kitchen and this dehydrated food in particular. My older one was a little finicky with her meals before I switched over to the honest kitchen. Ever since we switched, she has not rejected a single meal. The only gripe I have is that the ease of mixing and rehydrating , differs between the different proteins. Other than that, their coats are beautiful and their bowel movements are regular!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have been feeding our pups HK for over 10 years now!! They used to leave kibble in the bowl all day long but now they get up eager to eat their Honest Kitchen and its gone in a snap. No worry about who is eating how much anymore. We stick with what works and what the dogs enjoy !! :) Thanks for such a terrific product !!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My dog Mikan will pick Honest Kitchen over my homemade meals for him. Which I make with great love and scientific precision. While this hurts my feelings, I acknowledge that Mikan is a connoisseur and Honest Kitchen homemade food is deserving of his approval (grumble grumble).

Questions

Is the honest kitchen’s homemade antibiotic and hormone free?

  1. I looked it up and there are no hormones or antibiotic in Hinest Kitchen Chicken for dogs. My dog loves the chicken flavir

How does this food compare to farmers dog brand ?

  1. We use Ollie which is similar to The Farmers Dog. We feed Ollie to our oldest but I was looking for a more economical solution for my younger two pups as Ollie is expensive. We went with The Honest Kitchen and my pups couldn't be happier. Sometimes my old guy likes to swap his Ollie for this as well. All my dogs can have sensitive stomachs and we have not had any issues since using both Ollie and The Honest Kitchen. Highly recommend The Honest Kitchen.

When adding water does the food get mushy? My Malti-Poo, Ginger, has been eating dry food for years and I've recently added a few chicken clusters. She loves them so thinking of trying the regular recipe.

  1. Yes, very similar to oat porridge.

Would this food be soft and small enough for a senior toy dog with few teeth left?

  1. Yes.  I originally bought it for my senior.  It does require to have warm water Mixed with it.  It has been amazing for my boy who had also developed reflux.  It is incredibly healthy as well.

Why is the product in 2 and 7-pound boxes?  It comes out to 7.14 a pound rather than ordering directly from the company and getting a 10 pound for 6.49 a pound?  Are the boxes made just for Petco?

  1. Hi there! Thanks for reaching out. We make this recipe in 2-pound, 4-pound, 7-pound, and 10-pound sizes. The variety allows you to choose the size that will be most convenient for your pup. All box sizes are also available directly from The Honest Kitchen. Thanks for your question!
