Tetra Safe Start Plus creates a biologically active environment to allow fast introduction of fish into newly set-up fish aquariums. Tetra Safe Start Plus reduces dangerous ammonia and nitrite and prevents new tank syndrome for a healthy start for fish in all freshwater aquariums. Contains live bacteria that start working immediately to provide a safe environment for new fish. Tetra Safe Start Plus can also be used after a water change, when adding fish or after medicating. "Cycling" your tank means growing the correct, healthy bacteria on a new filtration system to remove dangerous toxins. New filters are sterile and take 30 to 40 days for bacteria to naturally form. This concentrated formula speeds up the cycling process by accelerating the establishment of beneficial bacteria from the start for instant, safe results.

Questions
I have a new 1.5 gallon fush tank w carbon filter. I have one beta fish. After shaking bottle what quantity of Terra Safe Start concentrated Plus formula do I add? Fish has been in tank for 24 hrs already.
- You can’t add too much of this stuff. It’s good bacteria for your tank. The thing you need to worry about is that your tank isn’t cycled. You should do some research on it so you know the signs of an ammonia spike. You can get some seachem prime, stress and stability to help. Also a 1.5 gallon is too small for a betta no matter what pet store worker tells you. 5 gallons or more with filter and heater at 78 F. Hope this helps. Good luck. Keep an eye out for stress because it’s going to happen.

The dosing on this bottle is so confusing! On the front it says treats up to 200 gallons. This is why I bought the bottle. Now reading the back...it says treats up to 40 gallons. That is a huge difference! Which is it?
- Here are the instructions on the back of the bottle: Shake Well. To start new aquariums, add entire bottle to aquariums up to 40 gallons. Aquarium is then ready for fish. Consult your retailer for advice on type and number of fish appropriate for your aquarium. For healthy maintenance, add one teaspoon (5ml) for every 10 gallons when adding fish, after water changes or after replacing filter media. If you are using it for a new tank, it will treat up to 40 gallons. If you are using it for maintenance purposes, it will treat up to 200 gallons.

How long does the bottle last after opening it? I opened it 4 days ago and used half in my 5 gallon tank. I am wondering if it is still good and I can add the rest?
- There should be an expiration date somewhere on the bottle

can you use this in a 15 gallon outdoor water garden with plants in it. I plan on adding 2 fish to this barrel.
- You can certainly use it. Whether you need to use it is another matter. Certainly if it is a new set up, it would be a good idea. If you filled the barrel with water and plants a few weeks ago, some bacteria may already have established as. Outside frogs, and insects seek out such water sources and set up colonies which promote bacteria to deal with detritus produced. bacteria.

I'm going to be setting up a 20 gallon tank soon for my turtle and I was wondering if this safe enough to use since I don't have any filter media and everything is giving to be new? Is there an alternative for reptiles ?
- Yes, this is totally safe for any aquatic animal or environment. We do not have a reptile version (or amphibian one) as it isn't necessary.

I thought this product was to be used the same day as adding fish?? The Petco Sales Associate said I need to add this and let my tank run with just this and the water for at least a week before she would sell me fish. I’m confused.
- You can add fish right away but must be mindful that this a small bacteria colony, so only add 2 or three small, hardy fish like danios, tetra or maybe cory catfish. The bacteria need the ammonia from their waste to feed upon, enabling the colony to double its size each day. If no waste is available, it is necessary to add a bit of ammonia to your tank or the bacteria will starve to death in short order and your tank will fail to cycle jeopardizing your fish. After a few days you can add a couple more fish to feed the growing bacteria colony.. just don't get too excited an add so many fish that they produce more ammonia than the bacteria can consume and the ammonia level kills the fish. Test your water daily before adding fish to be certain the ammonia is being consumed by the bacteria. This will result in an ammonia level of zero which is your goal. I will leave you without a full discussion of the nitrogen cycle as there is ample material online, but I encourage you to read it. You have the answer to your question. Good luck, and enjoy your new hobby.

I bought the 3.38 bottle and I have a 3.5 gallon tank. How much should I put in it? Also, do you put it in after partial water changes or just after full water changes?
- Add the entire bottle (shake well before use). Do you have the fish in the tank already? This is meant to be used with new tanks (fish added after adding TSS). I would do a 100% water change, add the TSS, acclimate your fish to the tank, and add the fish within an hour of adding TSS.

So I put this in before I even added the fish. Also put this in right after I primed the water. When I actually get my fish should I add another bottle in or is it ok with the stuff I added now?
- I followed the directions on the bottle as far as adding. For a new tank, I added the proper dose (depending of course on the tank size) daily. You also need some sort of food source for the bacteria. You can add bottled ammonia, or add plants, fish food, etc. for the bacteria to take off. Adding daily, with something for the bacteria to feed on, is ideal until your levels look good. I use the API master test kit.

I just got a 20 Gallon tank. Its brand new. Just got it set up but no fish yet. The directions online say to use the whole bottle for up to 15 gallons & the bottle says all of it for up to 40 gallons. How much do I use for 20 gallons for a new start up?
- I use the whole bottle no matter what the size of the tank is. I just set up a 5 gallon and I used the whole bottle. I always add it right after I add my fish since the nitrifying bacteria in the bottle need a source of ammonia (which is what the fish provide it) or else they will die off.

I plan on having a brand new 20 gallon tank. After I use water conditioner, when do I add this and then how soon can I add fish? I just don’t know the order and time periods I’m supposed to do all this and how long I have to wait without fish in it.
- It depends on what water conditioner you are using. If you are using anything but Prime, you should be able to add it immediately after using your water conditioner. If you're using Prime, you have to wait 24-48 hours (I waited 48 hours) before adding it, as it will lock up the ammonia (it is supposed to do that) and that is what the beneficial bacteria in the bottle is supposed to feed on to start your cycle (so it will starve the bacteria). I added the Prime, waited 48 hours, added Tetra Safestart and within a hour of adding Tetra Safestart, I added my fish. You need to have a fish in the tank with Tetra Safestart, as it will need the ammonia from the fish (its excrement) to cycle your tank (you can't do a fishless cycle).
