Do not buy

I bought this product a month ago and the strips are so off that it’s not even close to accurate. I compared it to my API master kit and they are totally different readings. I would not recommend buying these strips, go with a liquid test kit

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great price/Ballpark measurements only.

I bought 2 bottles of these easy strips. They are not really the most accurate, but they are in the ball park and a cheap and easy way to see if you are in the right direction. I hack I discovered to keep the reagent from bleeding off the test strip was to lay a piece of wax paper underneath. I don't recommend these for the Nitrite measurement because it was off, on both bottles. I ended up using the API master test kit and the Nitrite was no where near close. The chlorine pad seemed accurate. I reccomend getting one bottle of Tetra strips and one bottle of API. The API test strips are more accurate but double the price. Save the API strips when you are close to completing your Nitrogen cycle in your new tank.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I got this as a fast way to check my freshwater aquarium levels. I also was having a major fish crisis at the time. I had to do a large water change. My fish was very stressed but all the levels looked ok, (I only looked at pH, nitrate, and nitrite to be honest and then used the Tetra Ammonia test strip as well) I will list the reading here: pH: 6.8 Nitrate: Very light pink, not quite at the 20 pink it shows on the test card, so I determined this to be less than 20, 10 perhaps. Nitrite: 0 Next day fish still stressed, and I thought, let me use my test tube set just to cross check. I got the following results: pH: 7.0 Nitrate: 20 Nitrite: 2.0 I couldn’t believe it would go so high overnight, but anything is possible. So I thought let me just see what the test strip says. So right after checking with my test tubes, I did a test strip read. The strip readings were as follows: pH: 6.8 Nitrate: 20 Nitrite: 0 I could not believe it picked up no traces of nitrite at all when my test tube result had read so high. These test strips are convenient, and besides the Nitrite seem to be within reasonable range of accuracy. I don’t know if I got a bad batch but I can’t trust them for nitrites now. I will always cross check with my other set. Just wanted to put this out there to help others be aware and maybe help some fish along the way.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I've been using these for years getting consistent results. I've noticed that Petco and PetSmart also use these for water testing. I've also tried API test strips, got whacky results and would not recommend them. But, I highly recommend the Tetra Easy Strips.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Don't puck up chlorine and ph is way off! They had me thinking my water hardness was really low about 20 strips in I started removing driftwood adding shells and went to the store down the street and ask the girl in the aquarium department what I could use to raise ph and she said really we have really hi ph so I bought a dropper kit come to find out it was off the chart so high

No, I do not recommend this product.

I'm not sure about these, probably good. Another monitor says everything is fine and fish are swimming around happy, but these strips say things are off the charts. I would not be surprised. High ammonia issues, I've had that before (nitrates and nitrites) it's why I hate the taste of water here. ph we'll see.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 2 of 2 Questions
Sort by: Newest Answers

What is ammonia? Nitrate, nitrite, hard water, something else?

  1. The nitrogen cycle is comprised of three stages: ammonia, then nitrite, then nitrate. Hard water is not related nor is pH. Ammonia is the waste the fish produce, essentially. It is converted to nitrite by beneficial bacteria and nitrite is converted to nitrate, the final by-product which live plants consume or which causes algae in tanks when there are no live plants and/or infrequent water changes.

Can the fish pH strips be used for science projects?

  1. Yes, this is the same type of testing paper used in most labs.
