LED Light

The LED doesn't stay in place very snug. I picked up lid and it slid right off into water! Now the light doesn't work very well and I can't find another!

This particular kit has a LED bubbler that is fully submerged at all times, so we are not sure what LED light you may own. Please call our Care Team and they'll be happy to sort this out for you, and make it right. 1-800-526-0650.

Doesn't filter enough

malefellie

I honestly don't know who thought of the brilliant idea of connecting both the airstone and the filtration to the same air pump because it really does NOT have the power to go through both. As a result I would have to choose between using one or the other. If i only ran the filter my fish didn't get enough air running through, and if I ran the airstone bubbler piece then the water instantly got murky. Now after a few months I have noticed even if I only run the filter that it no longer pumps enough water through. The water is murky and the water level has to be completely to the top otherwise the water barely dribbles over the lip of the filter.

We are sorry to hear you are struggling with your kit, malefellie! The air pump that comes with this kit is rated for a 10 gallon tank and is more than enough for a 1.1 gallon one. At this point, your air bubbler may be clogged and need cleaning and the air line tubing has probably stiffened where it attaches to the air pump. Remove it from the air pump and snip off the rigid part of the airline tubing then re-attach it. Checking the airline tubing and air stone periodically is part of the routine maintenance of operating an air pump. Tetra would be very happy to help you with this kit, so please just reach out to us at 1-800-526-0650.

Not sure...

I bought this 3 weeks ago. The little black top for the bubbler broke and now I have no top. Do I seriously have to replace the entire thing?

Sorry to hear this, CatM! Sounds like you are referring to the lid on the filter. If so, the filter system is sold separate from the tank. However, since it is such a new kit, we would take care of this under warranty, of course! We will email you directly but you may also call 1-800-526-0650 for help.

Led light

I've mine about a month. The LED light has stopped working. I've tried contacting you guys through Q&A but it keeps saying there's something wrong with the website. I've left a review before saying this tank is great, and it is.. But I'm just wondering how I get a new light?

Far too small for a betta, or 2 fish...

Novice

Those from the fish keeping community would wholeheartedly agree that a 1 gallon tank is far too small for a betta fish (or any fish). If you are considering this tank for a betta, consider (at minimum) a 3 gallon tank with a filter and heater. Tetra has a 3 gallon model that is great for bettas (and comes with heater and filter) With the reference of 2 community freshwater fish, I would also advise against that. The waste from fish (and what you feed it) would spike ammonia levels and be potentially fatal. Personally, I would not have a single fish in a 1 gallon tank, as you would need to do multiple water changes weekly just to keep the toxin levels down. They are correct with their advisement against a goldfish, they would need a 10gl tank at minimum (with no heater...they are coldwater fish). I promise I am not trying to come off as a fish snob. :) I am just someone who has invested a great deal of time into the hobby and try to share advice with others.

Thanks, Novice, for taking the time to leave such a candid review! We appreciate your opinion. As this tank does come with a filter, however, it can and does support either a single betta, or small community type fish such as a platy or mollie if a heater is added. Recommended coldwater fish would be guppy, white cloud minnow, or rosy barb. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss this with you at any time! Please feel free to reach out directly to us at 1-800-526-0650.

Not suitable for Betta

DesiJ

This take is great. But, Betta fish also require heaters. They're are a tropical fish. I also don't agree with having the Bubbles turned on to high, as Betta fish don't do so well in currents. It tends to stress them out. Aswell as the filter, if you have a Betta in your tank make sure the filter is turned down low. Also, I seen a few pictures with fake plants and Betta fish. This is a big no, Betta fish will easily tear their beautiful fins on these. Real plants are the way to go, or silk.

We appreciate your taking the opportunity to leave a review on this Tetra kit, DesiJ! You are quite correct; bettas do need a heater, and this kit does not come with one, so we would recommend purchasing one separately, along with a thermometer. In regards to the bubbles, this kit does come with flow valves that allow you to adjust the bubbles and the filter system. We recommend anyone with questions or concerns on this product, other Tetra products, or the hobby itself, to please contact us at 1-800-526-0650 so our trained representatives may assist them. Thanks again!
