Thank you for Beef and chicken fat

OC Cat

I really appreciate having a LI food BEEF recipe and Turkey second choice. I actually prefer the natural diet of chicken fat over the plant oils bc the oils oxidize and cause free radicals. There aren't many options for LI food and my cat stopped liking her last 3 brands and didn't like the other 3 I tried on her (over 7 year period). She likes this bc she loves Beef and beef is hard to find. One star taken off bc prefer no fish oil I was already giving high quality purified Nordic Naturals wild caught fish oil. Also chicken fat is not the same as chicken protein which is the allergen. Proteins. Carbohydrates. Fat. Different.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Cat loves it, but it makes her sick

We were feeding this cat food last year to our chicken sensitive cat. We stopped feeding it due to supply issues. We recently started again. She absolutely loves it, but it's been 2 weeks of gradual change over and her diarrhea is awful to the point of incontinence. We are taking her off of this immediately and sucking up the cost of the bag. Going back to Canyon River (no chicken ingredients). We would love if you'd go back to the old recipe or create a LID cat food that doesn't include any bird ingredients. She had a similar reaction to the Prey Turkey as well.

Taste of the Wild
Hello, thanks for being a loyal Taste of the Wild customer. We're sorry to hear about your cat’s incontinence issues. Our PREY Angus Beef Limited Ingredient Formula for Cats has not had a recent recipe change. It contains three key ingredients (Angus beef, lentils and chicken fat). Chicken fat does not contain chicken protein, so cats with chicken allergies are less likely to have a reaction to this ingredient. If you’d like to speak with one of our team members directly about what your cat experienced, please contact us via the contact us form on our website https://totw.pet/contact-us or by calling 1-800-342-4808 (8 a.m.-5 p.m. CT on weekdays.).

Beware, contains chicken fat

It says it is a limited ingredient beef, but one of the ingredients is chicken fat which... isn't beef. It doesn't work with my cat that needs a limited ingredient diet that is *not* chicken.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Hello, we appreciate your review. We are sorry to hear that our Taste of the Wild Prey Angus Beef Limited Ingredient Recipe did not work for your cat. Please note, the chicken fat included in the recipe does not contain chicken protein, so cats with chicken allergies are less likely to have a reaction to this ingredient. Our PREY limited ingredient recipes are a simpler approach to pet food based on the native diets of dogs and cats. Each recipe contains four key ingredients or less and is centered around a single animal protein source. Lentils are added as the single carbohydrate source, while tomato pomace and chicken fat provide fiber, antioxidants and omega fatty acids. <img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/stratos-logos/logos/tasteofthewildpetfood.jpg" alt="tasteofthewildpetfood" title="tasteofthewildpetfood" style="display: block !important; margin-top: 2em !important; border: 1px solid #ccc !important; padding: 2px !important; background-color: white !important;" /> <!--[if ReviewResponse]><![endif]-->

We've only given it to our cat for one day but...

We recently rescued a concerningly underweight but very friendly cat from off the streets. Although initially given a clean bill of health at the vet's, she failed to gain weight, prompting a second visit. (There were other concerning symptoms, many relating to the litterbox. I'll spare you the details.) Blood work confirmed irritable bowel syndrome (IBS - just like us humans). We were given a prescription gentle digestion cat food that proved to be anything but for our kitty. So, I did a little research on what to avoid for cats with IBS (such a long list!) and went to the pet store. After an hour reading through ingredients, I came home with a bag of PREY - Turkey with cautious optimism. We mixed it with her old cat food to transition her over, but she only ate the Prey Turkey, ignoring the old cat food altogether. Listen, she's been on it for one day, only 24 hours, and all her symptoms have vanished! She's clearly more comfortable, the litterbox looks normal for once (we changed it right before offering the new food), and she's already shown more energy than we've seen since we adopted her. I was hoping that it would work, but I had no clue it would work so well, so quickly. I am beyond thrilled. If your cat has IBS, this is your sign that you should try the Prey - Turkey.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Was a little Leary at first that my picky eater would turn up her nose but it was quite the opposite . She absolutely loved this food and will meow loudly when her bowl runs out. It is quite affordable and definitely a value for your money.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We recently discovered Taste of the Wild Prey in the turkey recipe. Molly is 15 and is a very picky eater but loves trying new food. This was a definite winner for her. She seemed to enjoy the taste and the size of each piece was perfect for her. She keeps asking us for more.

Questions

ERROR in Original post below. Correct: I PREFER THE CHICKEN FAT over PLANT OILS. 1. Plant oils oxidize. 2. Chicken fat cats natural diet. Fat is not equal to protein which is the allergen.

We're ppl complaining about sunflower oil so you changed it to chicken fat? all dry petfood has oils-sunflower oil most popular and I prefer it to the chicken fat for the allergies and for a true one animal source of food. Having hard time with options.

    1. Thanks for your question. Occasionally, a recipe changes due to an improvement in the recipe or ingredient availability. In 2022, we replaced sunflower oil with chicken fat in our Taste of the Wild PREY Angus Beef Limited Ingredient Recipe for Cats. Chicken fat does not contain chicken protein, so cats with chicken allergies are less likely to have a reaction to this ingredient. If you have any questions or would like a recipe recommendation, please contact our product specialists by visiting https://totw.pet/contact-us. Your veterinarian can also help determine the best diet for your cat based on their needs.

If chicken fat was switched in, how come the ingredient list hasn't been updated to reflect so?

    1. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. While the images for this recipe contain accurate information, the ingredient list lower on the page does need to be updated. We are working with Petco to correct this error as soon as possible. Again, thank you for letting us know.

Have any others who used the beef recipe because their kitties were sensitive to poultry seen their allergy symptoms return now that they use chicken fat in the recipe? Wondering if I missed an announcement or they just snuck the change in.

    1. I had no idea they started using chicken fat. I haven’t noticed a change in my sensitive cats, yet.

Hi, I have a female cat 5 years old, she has been eating gástric food, but now she is better and her vet recommended Test of the wild, so I would like to know what version could be the best option for her, thank you

    1. Hello, and thanks for reaching out! Our PREY Angus Beef for Cats Recipe may be a great choice for your cat, as each recipe contains three key ingredients and is centered around a single animal protein source. Lentils are added as the single carbohydrate source, while sunflower oil provides fiber, antioxidants and omega fatty acids.
