Modern science proves that your small breed dog shares the DNA of ancient canines, like the fox. Years of domestication and excellent care have turned your dog from a shrewd and wary hunter to a trusting best friend. Although their DNA remains the same and their tastes demand something of the wild, their diet should provide them with all the proper ingredients and nutrition they need to thrive. Highly digestible venison protein and small kibble size make this recipe easy on your small breed dog's tummy and teeth. Probiotics and prebiotic fiber help support healthy digestion, while a blend of venison, lamb, egg, duck and ocean fish proteins provide optimal amino acid nutrition. Rich in proteins and fat, this recipe provides the energy that active small dogs need. Your dog craves tastes from their wild past. Go ahead and give them one.

Questions
is this good for a senior dog 14 years old about 18lbs?
- I am not a veterinarian, but according to the Taste of the Wild website, this can be given to senior dogs. And 18lbs certainly qualifies as a small breed. Hope that helped.

Does the small breed come in ancient grains? Also concerned about duck and fish meal content?
- Hello, thanks for reaching out! Although we do not have an ancient grains recipe formulated specifically for small breed dogs, any of our recipes are suitable for small breed dogs and will meet their nutritional needs. If you’re interested in trying a different recipe and/or receiving a personalized recipe recommendation, please visit tasteofthewildpetfood.com/contact-us/.

I am seeing how many calories per cup this food is? Need to watch the intake of calories not just the volume. Thanks
- Hello, and thanks for reaching out! Our Appalachian Valley Small Breed Recipe contains 370 kcal/cup.

I have a mini-mini aussiedoodle. He’s 10lbs. Since he historically came from 2 large breed dogs, would we feed him small breed or large breed food. And if we feed him the large breed, what size are the nuggets?. Not sure which bag to buy.
- Hello, and thanks for reaching out! Dogs are typically considered a small breed if they weigh less than 25 pounds as adults. Our Appalachian Valley Small Breed Canine Recipe is specifically formulated for small breed adult dogs. This recipe features small kibbles that are barrel-shaped and about the size of a pencil eraser and is more energy dense with higher protein and fat ratios, meaning your adult dog can eat smaller portions to meet their nutritional requirements. While our Appalachian Valley Recipe was developed specifically with small breed adult dogs in mind, all of our recipes will meet the nutritional requirements of small breed adult dogs. In addition to Appalachian Valley, we have many all life stages or adult recipes that could also be a great fit for your mini-Aussie Doodle. The kibbles in these recipes are a flat, round disc shape and approximately the diameter of a dime. If you’re interested in learning more about our other Taste of the Wild Recipes, we would be happy to provide you with a personalized recipe recommendation. My 14 yr old dashund mix weighs 23.4 lb so consider him small breed. He has dental problems and has a hard time with the hard pieces. Do you make a softer dry food .We feed him the taste of the wild wet food also. He gets a 1/2 can a day.
- Hello, and thanks for reaching out! We do not produce a softer kibble, however, Appalachian Valley Small Breed Canine and our puppy formulas have smaller sized kibble than the others. Please know, anytime a dog begins having difficulty chewing, it is a good idea to have a dental exam performed by your veterinarian, if you have not already, as older dogs often suffer from dental disease, including infected, loose, or missing teeth. If this is the case, your veterinarian will recommend appropriate treatment options. Canned or moist food is typically best for dogs that are unable to chew adequately. What dog food does anyone recommend for a Pomeranian puppy ?
- Hello, and thanks for reaching out! Our Appalachian Valley Small Breed Canine Formula is a great option for small breed dogs; however, this recipe was developed as a maintenance diet and does not provide the nutrition puppies need. Please know, our puppy-specific formulas, which also feature a smaller kibble, include added DHA that aids in brain and eye development, to help your puppy grow to their full potential. With any diet change, we recommend consulting with your dog’s veterinarian. In addition, we are always happy to answer any additional questions, as well as provide a personalized recipe recommendation. I have a small Chihuahua/Yorkie blend that has to have a very small kibble. I can't really get a perspective of the size from the picture. What is the actual size of a piece?
- Hello, thanks for reaching out! The kibbles in our Appalachian Valley Recipe are barrel-shaped and about the size of a pencil eraser.

WHAT WOULD BE THE CORRECT AMOUNT TO FEED A 4 LB YORKIE
- Hello! According to our feeding guide, your dog should be eating between 1/3 and ½ cups of Appalachian Valley per day. Please know, the amounts listed on the feeding guide can vary as the recommendations are a starting point. Some dogs may require more or less food than the guidelines depending on activity level and other factors. Additionally, your veterinarian can help you determine the best feeding guide for you dog based on his/her needs.

Does Taste of the Life have any other flavors for small breeds besides the Appalachian Valley?
- Hello and thanks for your question! While Appalachian Valley is our only recipe designed specifically for small breed adult dogs, all of our recipes meet the nutritional requirements of small breed adult dogs. For small breed puppies, we recommend our two puppy-specific formulas, which also have a smaller kibble, or any of our All Life Stages formulas: High Prairie Puppy, Pacific Stream Puppy, Pine Forest Canine, Southwest Canyon Canine, and Sierra Mountain Canine.
