Be very careful about this brand. I opened the package and it was loaded with larvae, eggs and pupae moths. Had I not had a recent infestation (likely from this food, I suppose), I would not have recognized it. Basically opened, sprayed with clorex and placed in the trash outside.

This seems to be a high quality rat food. It would be perfect for rats over a year old because it’s lower in protein and their protein requirements are lower. My rats are younger, but to boost the overall protein content of their diet I mix this food with Mazuri Rat and Mouse, plus mealworms and various fruits and vegetables. I just ordered Oxbow Young Rat food today too and plan to add that as well. My rats love having variety in their food, and their vet says they’re very healthy. My rats really enjoy the taste of the Science Selectives and actually seem to prefer it to the Mazuri.

Great price for this brand. The going price is usually $15+ Usually $18. My rats were less than excited to eat everyday using Oxbow. They use to love Oxbow but one day they turned their noses up at it. They get fresh veggies and fruits and other treats but they should always have a quality lab block/ dry kibble. Science Select is way better than Oxbow. Ask any Rat owner and they'll tell you , unless they are still using Oxbow.

The little nuggets don’t make a mess like seed mixtures. Each mouse takes their nugget, hold it in both little hands, and enjoys eating it. So cute! Half of other mixtures end up as bedding.

Our rats LOVE this stuff! The beg for it every time they see the bag!
