Dirty feeders spread disease. We recommend disinfecting your bird feeders once a month in winter and more often in hot and humid weather. Soak all parts in a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water. Use a bird feeder brush to brush away grime inside the tube. Then remove any hardware and clean with a solution of mild soap and water, rinsing thoroughly. Refill when completely dry.

Terrific for small birds

This is just the best thistle feeder! I used to buy the mesh bags but with the first rain, birds refused to use it. I have so many birds - 8 at a time and more in the branches above it - that I bought another one for the other side of the yard. In 3 days, 1/2 of the thistle is gone! Great bird watching!!

Yes, I recommend this product.

I've been feeding my birds for years, including gold finches. This feeder fills from the top, and then you must twist the top back on. Here's the problem, if you're not careful and the top isn't sufficiently screwed on, you could lose your whole feeder see and all. That's why my feeder is now halfway down the hill behind the fence in my back yard. If the top had a more secure top, this wouldn't happen.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Best Gold Thistle Feeder !

I've been feeding gold finches more than 10 years and only used mesh socks. It was worn out easily and the thistle oil makes it browned, look dirty. I have to cover on top of feeder with plastic wide dish to keep feeder from the rain and sun too. And still under the feeder was always messy enough to attract the doves and sparrows. I've been looking for exactly this feeder for a long time. I bought 3 of this and replace all the thistle socks. Very easy to fill the seeds and no more worries of the rats, squirrels, big birds too.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Hello,

Unfortunately, cardinals do not eat thistle seed, so we do not recommend using this bird feeder to attract them. To attract cardinals, we would recommend serving sunflower seeds or a wild bird blend in a tube, screen or hopper bird feeder.

We hope this information helps!

Can you free a fruit and nut seed mix. Will birds peck through to eat the peanuts and dried fruit through this? Will seeds fall out the holes?

 1. Yes finches do feed in the rain.

Where is this made?

 1. I have had it for over a year and it still hanging in the yard but I have no clue where it was made. I assume somewhere in the product description that the manufacturer would be listed.

Is this able to sit on a deck railing? ALL my feeders sit on my deck railing.
