Dirty feeders spread disease. We recommend disinfecting your bird feeders once a month in winter and more often in hot and humid weather. Soak all parts in a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water. Use a bird feeder brush to brush away grime inside the tube. Then remove any hardware and clean with a solution of mild soap and water, rinsing thoroughly. Refill when completely dry.

Poor quality

I’ve gone through several of these feeders and the screw strips every time. I would buy a different one except I can’t find another feeder this large.

No, I do not recommend this product.

like size & accessibility of seeds, not durability

I just purchased our third one of these feeders, so clearly I am somewhat satisfied, but definitly not entirely. I think the previous ones have lasted 3 or 4 years each. Each time they have failed, it is a problem with the center bolt that the hanger ring screws onto. First time the threads got stripped so the hanger wouldn't tighten, couldn't hang it. Second one, failed last month in a different way: I tried to loosen the hanger loop (equivalent of a nut) after a winter storm, which was frozen, and the weld inside failed. I didn't torque on it particularly hard either. This third one I'm being ever so careful with the center bolt, but even so, the threads don't seem well-machined. This is a design/quality issue the manufacturer should address. That said, birds love it and it can feed a lot of them.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I bought one of your bird feeders less than a year ago thinking it would last for many years. The screw on lid stripped and I could no longer use the feeder. I was so disappointed in this product. To hold the amount of seed this feeder can hold the screw on part needs to have a stronger device. Can the screw on device be replaced?

No, I do not recommend this product.

Product is attractive, durable, easy to fill, easy to clean, and easy hfor birds to access. They really love it. This is our second unit; the screw threads in the top of the first wore out with use.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I bought this a couple months ago and the screw top has stripped. It won't hold when hanging. The birds love it. I've never had so many birds at one time. Can you replace the thing that holds the feeder? It goes down the middle and you screw on the top.

Yes, I recommend this product.

We love our feeder but the squirrels “ride” if and unscrewed the lid. Unfortunately the ring that secures the lid to the base is no where to be found. Is it possible to get a replacement piece? Our feeder is only a few months old.

  1. If you take the feeder to a hardware store, they can probably find something that will work. That's if manufacturer doesn't have replacement parts.

Can it be mounted on a pole?

Is there plastic around the mesh to stop the seed from getting wet and growing mold?

    1. No plastic. However, I have never had a problem with mold. The birds eat the seed fast enough. Also, I only feed in the colder months when food is scarce for the birds. I live in an area where birds have abundant food naturally in the warmer months.

Does this feeder prevent Grackels from feeding? Also how many pounds seed does it hold?

    1. Hi kubaduke, and thank you for your question regarding the Stokes Select Giant Combo Bird Feeder. This feeder has 2 compartments that when combined holds 11.2 pounds of seed. It attracts a wide variety of birds and is not designed to keep Grackels out. However, Grackles are larger and like to land a feed, so this should be more attractive to smaller species of birds. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Customer Service Team at 1-800-352-9164. Thank you for flying with our flock!

I don't know much about birds but I have Doves in my yard and smaller birds, too. Will this feed both types?

    1. This feeder is good for small to medium size wild birds. Doves need to feed on platform feeders or tray feeders. They're also may feed on the ground from seed that fall from feeder.

The part that screws on to the top of the feeder and includes the ring from which the feeder hangs has split in half - the threaded part separated from the bulb section holding the ring. I would like to get a replacement for this.

    1. Hi WabenoBirder and thank you for reaching out about your Stokes Select Giant Combo Bird Feeder. We are sorry to hear that the screw top failed. We would be happy to replace this part for you since it is manufacturing flaw. Please give our Customer Service Department a call at 1-800-352-9164 and they would be happy to assist you! Thank you and have a great day!

This sounds like an ideal feeder for the small birds in my neighborhood, but the starlings are truly beasts. Are there any types of starling-resistant food that will work in this feeder, other than thistle/nyjer and black oil sunflower seeds? THANKS!

    1. Hi CindyLea, thank you for reaching out. I am sorry to hear that your Starlings are eating up all of your seed. Another seed option that you could use is Safflower seed. I hope that helps you and if you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask. You can reach our Consumer Services Department at 1-800-352-9164 or at consumerservices@classicbrands.net. Happy Birding!

Due to animal & weather extremes, my hood is bent & the fastener has been stripped out. My hubby retrofitted a U-bolt & wingnut to fasten it. It's cumbersome to use, especially in winter snow. The chamber is fine. Can I get those replacement parts?

    1. Hello, Thank you for contacting Stokes Select. Unfortunately, we do not carry replacement hoods for the Giant Combo Bird Feeder.

How many birds can feed (eat) on the 'Giant Combo Bird Feeder' at the same time?

    1. Hi Sharona, Thank you for contacting Stokes Select. Because birds can feed from either the six perches, the tray at the bottom or by clinging to the screen, you can feed many birds with the Giant Combo. This feeder can serve all mixed seeds; the side with the finer mesh is intended for thistle seed or finch blends.

Can this feeder be mounted on a pole? Not a Shepherds pole but from the bottom mounted?

    1. Hi Blanche! Thank you for your interest in our #38113 Giant Combo feeder. Unfortunately, this feeder is not pole mountable from the bottom. If you would like to find some of our pole-mountable feeders, please feel free to reach out to our customer service team by phone at 1800-334-2518 or by email at consumerservices@classicbrands.net. Thank you.
