Works, but not as sticky as needed. Hard to apply.

Just purchased Sticky Paws on a Roll for Cats to keep my cats from scratching up the top of a fabric-covered single cat condo. I have two of these condos and when one of my cats decided the top would make a great scratching surface, I was determined to deter her. I have enough damage on my own furniture, I wasn't about to let her destroy a brand new item that wasn't even a week old! So, hearing about how double-sided tape can discourage clawing, I googled and found this at Petco. Right off the bat, after pulling about 15 inches from the roll, it folded in on itself when I tried to peel the protective sheet from the tape. I then saw that the protective cover was split down the middle of the tape and that peeling from there made it easier to remove. Trying to apply the peeled tape to the surface of the condo, though, took another 15 inches, because it wouldn't let go of my fingers when I had it placed where I wanted it. Yet it wouldn't adhere to the surface well enough to stay in place, either. I learned quickly to press the tape down where I wanted it BEFORE removing the protective cover. Then, I avoided touching any part of it once applied, except for the very end, which was longer than the top was wide. I pulled down against the side of the condo to release the tape from my fingers and to secure it in place. Its sticky enough for fingers but not enough to stay in place if touched. So far, it is working as described, but this morning I found one of the condos had moved and one of the lengths of tape was somewhat crumpled and misaligned. I can only assume that, during the night, one of the cats had decided to get curious and touched the top of the condo where I had placed tape. I only placed about 3 strips across the top, but apparently that's all it needed to discourage the cat from getting on top of the condo. Just now, as I was typing this, one of my cats attempted to hop on top of the condo and immediately hopped off when his paws touched the sticky tape. The tape is now misaligned, but at least it did its job. In summary, it works if you press the tape in place before removing the protective paper and if you're careful not to touch any part of the tape except for the very ends, and pull down or away from the middle to release it from your fingers if the ends don't adhere. Do not touch any other part or you will have to do it all over again. It works at deterring cats from getting on top of forbidden objects, but you will probably need to replace the tape at a given point in the not too distant future. Hopefully, though, it will eventually train your cat not to get on certain surfaces. Three stars for: affordability, ease of removing from roll, doing its job. Minus two stars for application and inferior sticking attributes. As for someone stating that it's very hard to remove...I did not have that issue at all. Wish it had been hard to remove, but maybe it sticks better on non-porous surfaces such as tile, rather than fabric? I'm on the fence whether to buy this again if I happen to run out. I can see it being replaced often, though, because it doesn't stick very well on fabric. I have a leather couch that I'm going to experiment with to see if it does better, but the couch is pretty much scarred up by the cats, so a moot point for sure. LOL

Yes, I recommend this product.

Was more irritating to me than to the kitten.

I have a 4-month old kitten who is now able to jump up on the kitchen counters. So I’d heard that the sticky tape was the way to go. It’s pretty tricky to install and even harder to remove. It didn’t deter the kitten but kept snagging my clothing until I finally removed it. The young woman at Petco was so nice. She suggested something else that is working better.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Questions

Can it be used on Carpets??

  1. We are using it on carpet right now to stop our kitten from digging at the threshold. It will probably get dirty and need changed and can be inconvenient until you learn not to step on it, but it does prevent her from scratching and digging.

What is the width of the tape?

  1. Sorry, I have the strips, not the roll. Strips are approximately 1"accross.

Does this product deter cats from jumping on counters?

  1. I used this product to train a 5-month old kitten to STAY OFF THE COUNTERS! I applied it to the "trail" he was using to get himself up there and also on the counter edge where he would end up. ONE APPLICATION (little paw prints on the counter) did the trick. He hasn't attempted to get up there since!

Can this work on doorframes?

  1. Yes, really well

Can you use this on faux leather. The sales clerk at Petco wasn't sure. I have 5 rescue cats and a new recliner. Thanks in advance.

My kitten will not stop jumping on the kitchen counters. Will this stop her?

    1. Scat cat air in a can that sprays air when motion is sensed. The only downfall is I would scare myself to death when I went into the kitchen to make coffee and forgot it was turned on. It senses human motion on the countertops too.

Can a cat escape if this is placed on a walking surface or is it too sticky? My cat won't stop pooping on a new spot and the static mat is too finicky.

Will this work for corners of walls as well?

      1. Absolutely! Works well.

Does the tape leave a sticky residue when you remove the tape?

      1. No

What happens if you need to remove tape? Is the woodwork destroyed?
