Don't Purchase for Erosion Control

Bergie

The description states there are a few barley or wheat seeds that might sprout if used in garden for erosion. There are significantly more than a few. I deeply regret buying this product. I have always used straw as a mulch in my garden with no problems. But this product has so many seeds that I now have a barley/wheat turf growing in my raised beds. I spent several hours removing the barley and wheat seedlings and a few days later have just as many. My guess is the straw was not filtered to remove seeds and being wrapped in plastic helps hold them in. Your website should not promote this product for erosion. So so disappointed.

I bought this for my garden to sprinkle over planted areas for a little protection. I would buy it again except that it's full of seeds. For some areas this wasn't a problem, but in most areas it either: Attracted bird and squirrels to dig, which was the exact problem I wanted the straw to solve Grew so many grass seeds that were annoying and time consuming to pull out. It would have been no big deal to just turn the soil over instead, but because I had already put MY seeds in the ground I couldn't. For my needs it was 1 star but I have not other complaints about the product.

No, I do not recommend this product.

is this good for animal (feral cat) bedding? approximately how long is the straw length? it looks very chopped......

  1. I found it to be variable length, mostly a few inches but some longer 6" or even close to a foot long. Also it was full of seeds. In some case you may not want to attach critters...

Is this barley straw ? As in ok for Donkeys to eat?

    Is this straw shreaded

this looks like chopped up straw, is it? or is like a real bale of straw just wrapped up? thanks

      1. It’s chopped straw in a plastic bag, not a bale and not a long grass strands.
