Questions
Two out of three cans have no vacuum seal. This is a probem with the ones with gelee. The cans with gravy have a faint hiss when you open them. I am concerned about giving spoiled food to my cat. Anybody else?
- That's a great question! Our cans don't have a vacuum seal, so you might not always hear a pop or hiss when opening them. The absence of that sound doesn't indicate that the food is spoiled -- it's just due to the way our cans are sealed. When making our food, the ingredients are first cooked, and then the cooked food, along with other ingredients, are put into our cans and hermetically sealed. Then comes the retort process. Based on the ingredients in the recipe, the density of said ingredients, and the size of the can or pouch itself, the can/pouch is then heated at specific temperature for a certain length of time. We use international standards (because they are more strict than US standards) for human food when performing this phase of our cooking process and it is heavily monitored by our manufacturer. This is also the commercial sterilization stage of the cooking process and it is designed to kill all single cell organisms. This is what gives our cans a three shelf life without adding preservatives. Because our cans are hermetically sealed with the cooked food inside, and then the hermetically sealed can goes through the retort process where it's cooked at extremely high heat and pressure, this is how you know the inside of the can is a sterile environment. This process does not create a "vacuum pop" sound in our cans when you open them. There are several methods used for canning food commercially, and the one I've outlined above that we use is pretty standard here in the US. I hope this helps! Will this work with wifi?
- Yes but it has to be configured by hard wireing an Ethernet cable first. I run mine off of an Apple Airport. The Apex unit itself does not have wi-fi though.
