I've owned my P dog seat for 8 years. EIGHT years!

I originally purchased this Petsafe dog seat to replace one from another company that the nylon strap the seat hung from the headrest decayed and broke...after approximately 1 year of use. I wanted something that would elevate my dog so she could see over the dash of my Honda Civic. It had to be secure and the Petsafe seat does that. I did purchase one that was larger then my 12 pound dog needed. It was covered on the outside with a heavy duty dark brown nylon fabric. The inside has a fleece lining. And it came with a fleece covered pillow. My dog didn't care for the pillow. It was a bit thick for her to be comfortable on. I simply stopped using that pillow. The fleece lining is enough for her. I have had my Petsafe care seat in both the front & back seat of my Civic and have no trouble with it fitting on either seat. The seat belt when pulled snugg keeps it in place h secure. The strap to buckle her into has the seat belt threaded through it under the raised seat area. I did replace the harness clip with one that rotates as she does like to circle when getting ready to nap. This wasn't very hard as the supplied one came off without too much trouble and the replacement was installed with equal effort. I'll admit that wasn't a walk in the park but it also wasn't impossible. Now after 8 years I'm here looking for a new fleece lining as this one is showing some wear. Happily the outer nylon cover has some very minor fading with no signs of wear. After being in a car with 8 years of continuous use! I highly recommend this Petsafe dog car seat to anyone looking for a place for their pet to ride in a car safely.

Helps car sickness

Sadie Mulan

I got this for my 38 pound dog who experiences extreme car sickness. It doesn’t cure the car sickness altogether, but it helps and she can lay down and easily see out the window. If we’re going to be doing a lot of turns or stops, I give meclizine as well. But now she doesn’t vomit every time we go somewhere. The seat is rather hard and the cushion too thin. I almost sent it back bc of this, but this was the only one I could find that was crash-tested. I took an extra pillow from the bed and put it in so it overlays the front and bottom, and moved the little brown cushion to protect her back. She lays on it with her chin on the pillow in the front divet. Every so often I take everything off and run in washer and dryer. That fluffs the pillows up at the same time. I think there is room for storage drawer under the seat for like extra leash & poo bags; maybe next design? I gave only 4 star because it is hard, but I would definitely buy it again. It is a worthwhile investment if your dog has car sickness and needs a boost to see out. I don’t think it solves the problem, but it definitely helps (she chooses to go to that seat vs just sitting in back seat and also prefers to front seat). It is a reasonable price for how sturdy it is. I’d rather pay less money and add a pillow, than have the price increase for fancy cushioning that maybe can’t be washed. We’ve had this about 2 years now.

Makes our dog smile!

My husband and I have owned 2 Happy Ride Dog Safety Seats for 5 or 6 years. We have one in each car. This safety seat makes our 12 lb. Silky Terrier so happy! He can see out of the window when we are traveling at a high speed, but can also safely put his little nose out of the window when we are driving around town. This is a well built product that functions perfectly. The seat buckles in with a seat belt (even a shoulder harness) and there is a strap to tether our fur baby into the seat. This truly is a "Safety Seat"!

Great Seat

Bichon Mom

I purchased the car seat with the plaid seat cover. I think the seat belt and the way the tether is designed is Perfect! The safest seat, no way to get caught in the tether, and as another seat I have, and am getting ready to replace, the tether doesn't slide from side to side and allow the pup to get out of the seat. But here is what I did......I put a soft blanket under the cover, to make it softer in the seat. I also, got some pipe insulation, that has sticky at the openings, and cut them to fit on each side and the front, under the seat cover, to give more comfort for my pups chin/neck to rest on. I had to do the same with my pups stroller for the paws/legs when they like to get on the front of the stroller. It works great and comfy for my pups. I recommend this Very Safe car seat over any other one I looked at❣️

Dogs can ride up front and stay safe!

I purchased this safety seat for my Yorkie that I just adopted. I want her to be able to ride safely and enjoy the sites. This is perfect! It includes a safety belt to make sure she doesn’t get tossed about should we be in a collision. She loves it. And when we get into our condo complex where the speed limit is 20 mph, I roll down her window so she can say hi to our neighbors as we drive by... she can put her head out the window without any concern of falling out. Perfect blend of fun for my dog and safety for her too!

Great seat- pillow is more like a thin blanket

DAustin

Good car seat and it allows our small cockapoo to see out of the window when riding. The main reason for the purchase was to potentially help with our dog’s motion sickness. It does help it seems. I rated the product a 4 instead of 5 because the pillow provided is extremely thin so the hard “floor” of the seat can be felt underneath as if there was no pillow at all which seemed to crest discomfort. I had to buy a thicker pillow to replace the blanket-thin one which helped our dog feel more comfortable (less sick while riding).

My dog loves it

It was a little frustrating to put together but I was able to do it fairly quickly. My dog is 20 lbs and fits nicely inside. He is able to lay down comfortably and can sit up and see clearly over the dash and out the window. I love knowing that he is safely secured and can't jump around the car and hurt himself.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Dog loves it but metal clip gets hot

My dog jumps right into it, loves to go for rides. It can be a little difficult to hook up to seat belt but once it's in, it is secure. The only issue is the metal clip for the harness gets very hot if left in car. It would be better if there was some sort of coating on it so it can be left in the car.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Questions

Sort by: Newest Answers

what is the maximum weight the dog can be

  1. I have no idea. My two are about 15 lb. each, and it does fine.

what are the demensions ? and size of dog who could fit on it, also can it be exchanged at the store if not what we like?

  1. Thank you for your question, Donna! The dimensions of the Happy Ride Standard Pet Safety Seat are 17” L x 22” W x 17” H. It will work with most pets that are 30 pounds or less in size. Exchanges for different products would be at the Petco's discretion if the product is purchased directly from them.

Any experience with cats?

  1. If you're looking at these then you must care deeply for your cat. With that in mind, let me tell you that this type of seat is not appropriate at all for cats of any kind. You need a cat CARRIER, either soft or hard sided kind. I have a soft sided one that my cat loves. Be sure it's big enough for your cat to stand up or to lay down and stretch out a bit. I hook mine to the seat belt through the handles and it stays secure. If you want your cat to be able to see out the window, you can boost it up with multiple layers of thick foam rubber (glued together and secured to the seat belt and to the carrier through the straps). Or you could devise a "riser" with a sturdy box under it. I hope you take my advise though and get a carrier for your cat and not a seat.

Is this product large enough for a Lhasa Apso?

  1. No, not at all big enough.

How is this particular car seat attached? Where does the seatbelt go.

  1. The seat belt goes through a slot on each side but also the teather also goes through the seatbelt which makes its very secure. and with the car seat being make of plastic you are really able to pull your seat belt snug without any give. Loved that feature of the product,
