Tangs are commonly referred to as surgeon fish due to having a sharp spine that looks like a "scalpel" at the base of their caudal (tail) fin that is used for protection, use caution when handling. Adults tend to live alone in the wild, so they should not be kept with fish that look similar, like other tangs. However, they should be peaceful towards most other tank mates. Sohal Tangs are found in seaward edges of reefs exposed to surges in the Western Indian Ocean and Red Sea. They have horizontal dark lines that begin to fade as they proceed to the caudal, pelvic and anal fins. Their fins are outlined with a vibrant blue. They will grow to be over a foot in size, so will need a great deal of swimming space. Full grown adults of this tang will need around 250 gallons; however, you can get away with smaller aquariums when they are juveniles.

ACCLIMATION: Avoid exposing new aquatic life to bright lights after opening the box. Turn off aquarium lights prior to floating aquatic life. Allow the sealed bag with your new fish to float in your aquarium for at least 15 minutes (but no longer than one hour) to ensure the water in the bag matches the temperature in your aquarium. A bacteria booster addition can assist with the addition of new aquatic life. Petco offers free water testing in store to determine if your water is safe for the addition of new aquatic life. DIET: A well-balanced diet consists of a variety of flakes, pellets, freeze-dried and frozen foods, depending on the species. FEEDING: Feed sparingly and no more than fish can eat in 1-2 minutes. Overfeeding can quickly foul the water, especially in smaller aquariums.
