Description

So Phresh Odor-Control Paper Litter with baking soda is the tough-on-odor, easy-on-the-Earth way to handle your cat's dirty business so the two of you can relax with a clean conscience. Paper that was once a newspaper or student book report is recycled into light-weight, moisture-locking pellets. Our litter is super-absorbent; it won't even break apart or cake at the bottom of the pan when wet. Our formula controls odor in two ways: baking soda and zeolite work together to neutralize unwelcome ammonia odor, and it has a fresh clean scent for especially smelly situations. Feel good about scooping sustainably knowing that you're using recycled paper litter to keep your home smelling fresh and clean.

SoPhresh Cat Litter is Dust Free!

Mom 2 cats 2 dogs 1 horse

I tried SoPhresh on the recommendation of a friend because I was in search of a cat litter that did not create a lot of dust. The SoPhresh paper pellets are perfect for absorbing moisture and odors and is dust free. I have two cats and have been using this litter since they were adopted - almost 8 years!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Product quality declining

I prefer paper litter for my cats, so I am happy that Petco offers this option. I've been buying this for a couple of years. In the past several months, though, the pellets have gotten heavier but the volume has been shrinking. I pour the pellets into bins after opening the bags. Volume is noticeably shrinking, which means I have to buy more to fill the litter boxes. It also means that the litter will be even heavier for scooping and clean-out. The most recent bag also had about a 1/2 cup of powdered paper pellets in the bag, creating a dust problem. I will switch to another vendor for awhile to see if this is an industry-wide problem or quality control at the So Phresh company.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Reduces scooping, minimal odor control

I'm a new cat mom of not 1 but 3 kittens. I know nothing about cats and litter. I started with clay litter (Scoop Away, A&H Cloud control). Then went into a rabbit hole finding a natural litter that fit my criteria (unscented, clumping, no dust, prefer low tracking, not too expensive) Settled with grass seed litter which I like a lot aside from the tracking. Then a coworker told me she uses So Phresh paper pellet for her 1 senior cat that she never scoops and just throw the whole thing out once a week. I decided to give it a try since the gang was going in for neuter/spay. The grass seed litter will get too messy with the cone, so made the switch a week before surgery. Due to a unique temporary situation, I only have 1 litter box running. Will not work for a lot of people, these kittens are bonded, they share everything and do everything together. They took to the switch well and used it right away with some curiosity. They of course played with the pellet, which I let them the first day. After that, it was a NO NO. I don't bother scooping the litter except for feces. You can try scooping the urine, but it takes too much time trying to sort it. The pellets that absorbed urine will be slightly darker in color, swell to 1.5x, and the outer layer will be feathery. I just throw the whole tray away every morning and pour new pellets. With 3 kittens and 1 litter box, the 25lb bag can last 7-10 days. I like that I can cut down on scooping. Its fairly lightweight (lighter than clay, heavier than grass seed) However, it doesn't do much for odor control. I do find that sprinkling a thin layer of baking soda at the bottom helps a bit. I'm still deciding if I will continue using paper pellet after the gang recover from surgery or go back to grass seed.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Awful litter

Awful. Impossible to scoop. Zero odor control. Poop just sits on top of the litter. Awful. I can't say enough how absolutely terribly awful this terribly awful litter is.

Cat doesn't like it and neither do I. It's hard to scoop the wet pellets so you end up with a mess in the bottom of the littler box. Since they've long and don't clump you toss out a lot of extra litter. And the cat works much harder to cover his business. We'll be finding something else to use.

Formula changed from clean paper to wet cardboard!

Been using this litter for years and it used to be great, but lately every single bag I purchase has a wet, mildewy smell. The pellets used to be a light gray color, but now they're always brown. I spoke to customer service and while they did refund me for one single order, they offered no explanation as to why all the bags have changed in quality and freshness. It smells like a wet recycling bin as soon as I open the bag! The rep was someone at a call center, so I suspect they just have no idea about the products themselves, but after so many bags being the same I'm convinced that this litter is just another victim to the lower-quality/higher-price trend that all companies seem to be joining in on. I'm disappointed as this is the only litter my cats use, but now the clean litter smells just as bad as the dirty litter. Petco, do better!!

Our cats love their litter and so do we. Not nearly as messy as the clay litter and when you pour into a litter box one doesn’t gag from the dust residue. We use to buy ‘Yesterday’s News’ however for the price your brand is just as good. Sometimes you don’t have it in stock so we asked when the delivery date is and we try and get here the next day.

Can this be used for birds cage? Is it safe for them?

  1. I wish I knew.  I use this for my Japanese Chin puppy, he is 9 years old.

What is an ALTERNATIVE USE for these pellets? I bought too many & didn't return them in time. THANKS

  1. You could donate them to a local cat shelter

I bought three bags of this litter. I was very happy with the first bag that opened. Unscented and worked great. The second bag has a strong mildewy smell. I don’t see any mold or anything different from first bag-just has a strong smell. Anyone else?

  1. I have been using this litter for about 8 years. I have 10 cats...so I buy 12 bags a month. YES!!! Sometimes the litter has problems. Sometimes the pellets are small, or large or smashed. Sometimes the smell is awful...like toxic. I keep using it because it doesn't track. I take out the solids....stir the rest....and completly change the litter every 3rd day. I have better luck with the one that says..."clean fresh scent" and has the siamese cat on the bag. Quality control is lacking for this product and the price just keeps going up. It use to be $10 a bag and now is $17. I keep buying though as it still works the best for me. I've tried everything out there. Just have Petco replace your bad bag. That's all you can do. Hopefully...they'll get more consistant with the product.

How do you scoop it? The pellets don't sift out. I'm wondering if it's because I've mixed with regular litter till the cats get used to it. Do you just try to scoop out the dark paper?

  1. Hi Gramma jean, It is possible that this is due to mixing with regular litter causing it to be harder to scoop or potentially the type of scooper that is being used. For best use, spread 3 inches of litter evenly, ensuring the bottom of the litter pan is dry. Remove with a litter scoop specifically targeting the areas your cat used, the darker paper. Scooping frequency is up to your preference, but it is recommended to scoop once daily. Dependent on how often you are scooping now this could also be a reason it may be harder to scoop. Hope this helps! Thanks,

Do I need a special box for this litter?

  1. No.

Is this packaging recyclable?

  1. No, the packaging is a celophane (plastic) thick enough to handle weight and shipping without breakage.

What is the difference between So Phresh Odor Control Paper Pellet Cat Litter, 25 lbs. w/brown & white Siamese cat on it and the other So Phresh Odor Control Paper Cat Litter, 25 lbs. w/orange & white cat? The say the same things.

  1. I think the orange cat is fragrance free.

Will this product ever come in a paper bag? The contents are great and provided some peace of mind that it is recycled paper but the packaging is counter to that. I'd feel even better buying the product if it were in a recycled bag.

  1. I agree but as a customer I cannot answer that. You should contact the manufacturer.

Can this litter be used in a ferrets litter box? It is a lot larger bag and cheaper price than the small animal pellet litter

  1. Yes! This is all I have used for  my 3 ferrets! They have 3 boxes in their house and 3 around their room. I also have 3 large boxes for the 3 cats in the rest of the house. For the ferrets I use paper towels to grab the poo ,then another one to scoop the pee. Works great for us! Also it is much nicer to not step on the clay litter the cats love to scatter everywhere!

what is the best kind of litter box to use with this litter, im currently using a regular litter box but i feel like thats incorecct

  1. I have 4 ferrets and 2 cats. The ferrets have squarish box’s that have about an inch of litter in them. The cats have round and rectangular covered boxes with 2 or 3 inches of litter. It doesn’t seem to matter what shape the box is at our house. To clean them I use paper towels to pick out the used litter.
