Description

Please note that the product information displayed is provided by manufacturers, suppliers and other third parties and is not independently verified by Petco.

Royal Canin Urinary SO is a veterinary-exclusive dry cat food that supports bladder health. It increases the amount of urine produced to help dilute excess minerals that can cause crystals and stones. Low Relative Super Saturation (RSS) methodology helps lower ion concentration, which contributes to stone formation. A reduced level of magnesium helps prevent struvite stones from reoccurring.

  • - CATS WITH URINARY CONCERNS: Royal Canin Urinary SO is a veterinary-exclusive adult cat food for adult cats with urinary health concerns
  • - HELPS DISSOLVE STONES: Innovative urinary tract cat food helps dissolve pure struvite stones and helps prevent calcium oxalate stones
  • - BLADDER HEALTH: Lowers the risk of crystal formation using RSS methodology for cat bladder health
  • - S/O INDEX: The exclusive S/O Index creates an environment unfavorable to crystal formation in the bladder to support urinary health
  • - HELPS PREVENT STONE REOCCURANCE: Specialized diet, with a reduced level of magnesium, helps prevent struvite stones from reoccurring

Vomiting and aversion

Ilovecatvideos

This worked to dissolve and prevent struvite stones, but then suddenly the vomiting began. Thinking it was hairballs, I switched to the wet food—some old cans I had in case of emergency.,But when I bought new cans the vomiting escalated. She developed an aversion to the SO in any form Since my cat is overweight, she can get acute fatty liver if she does not eat, so I fed her some commercial food WITHOUT issues. That’s when I came to this site to see if my situation was unique. Obviously not.

New bags made my cat sick and hospitalized

Apple C

My cats have been eating this food for many years but all of a sudden they started boycotting it. I assumed it was a bad batch and bought a new bag. They enjoyed the new bag a little but still boycotting it. I noticed more frequent vomits and then suddenly my cat had acute pancreatitis and was hospitalized for 7 days. The scariest ever! Nothing had changed for her in her environment just the behavior towards the food. My other cat also was boycotting the food but did not develop pancreatitis so I’m pretty certain the food was the culprit (they just had varying reactions to it - thankfully not both of them hospitalized). I immediately changed their food. I’m reading more reviews of pet parents noticing cat vomits and this is worrisome! Has Royal Canin acknowledged anything? Can you tell us what exactly changed in the formula? I’d like to make sure I don’t feed her the new ingredients in any way to keep her healthy. This information would be helpful to all pet parents!

VOMITING

3Whiskerteers

I have been feeding my cat this food since being diagnosed with urinary issues in 2022- he was diagnosed at age 5, he is now 8. He and I both loved it; him the taste, me with peace of mind knowing I am keeping him healthy and safe. It is on the pricier side, but it is cheaper (so I thought) than vet bills. That is to say until a few months ago. He no longer was interested in devouring it as he used to and has began vomiting after eating it. I figured it was just because he was eating too fast so I sadly never thought twice about it. This past week he began vomiting profusely over 24 hours. Rushed him to the ER and they couldn't find anything wrong, took him to his primary where they ran multiple tests and nothing, then took him AGAIN because he started vomiting (3 times at this point) to the vet with more blood work and more x-rays coming out just fine. He was given a different food to build calories which we have to force feed and has been put on 3 bags of fluid. After eating a different brand food for ONE DAY, he started coming back. It wasn't until I put out this food for all of my cats that I noticed something was wrong. His littermate is essentially a garbage disposal that would try to eat all of his food, it got to the point to where we had to start feeding my Urinary so cat on the counter to ensure he was getting his medicine. When I sat the food on the ground to entice him to graze, my garbage disposal of a cat REFUSED to eat this. With that being said and multiple vets having no clue what's wrong, it has GOT to be this food. And seeing these reviews with people experiencing the same issues deeply saddens me because I feel guilty for forcing him to eat food that was making him sick but also heartbroken to those experiencing the same issues. My husband and I were at a complete loss because he was no longer eating or drinking, we were close to saying our goodbyes because we just didn't know what else could have been done. When our vet gave us different branded food that he is now devouring on his own and is NOT making him throw up, I have no other choice but to believe it is because of this food. So sad.

Used to love it

Catmum

Cat always loved this, i have 2 cats, one which is not on this food, yet they used to fight over it. Now neither will touch it. The cat that was on it stopped eating it and has lost 10% of his body weight, vet can't find anything wrong with him and now we think it must be food. He literally would rather starve to death than eat it. When he does eat it he vomits. He started scavenging for food and will eat anything but this. He has been on it for 2 years plus. Not sure if there is a formula change?

Trying so hard not to run Chewy, don’t push me

Grieving CatMom

Can’t rate this food yet. You promised delivery on 6/28, first package arrived 7/2 with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THAT I ORDERED 😠😡🤬 My baby is in severe risk of another urinary blockage and you’re playing stupid games sending me cat litter instead?? And after being over a week late you can’t even be bothered to overnight what I actually ordered?? I’d have run back to Chewy already if they weren’t complicit in murdering my babygirl 😩😩 Your advantage over Chewy is diminishing with every moment I have to wait for this critical new food … I suggest you do something to earn it.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Cat not eating anymore?

My 9 year old cat has been eating this food for the past 5 years. He’s always devoured it, but suddenly he doesn’t seem interested in it anymore. Not sure if there was some change? He still eats the wet food.

Formulation change? Vomiting cats

tif1966

We have been using RC U S/O for over 10 years. We recently got a large bag of this food in the Netherlands and our cats began vomiting for several weeks after starting the new bag. Our one older cat passed away and we are unsure if this food played a part because she didn't want to eat any more and we struggled to get her to eat enough of any other food. She passed away shortly after not wanting to eat this food any longer.
