New formula makes dogs SO sick!

I’m so mad. Our senior dog has uncontrolled diarrhea. After many vet visits, new meds, and perplexing us and his vet—- I’m reading this!! You CHANGED the formula!!!! I’ve had months of cleaning up crap. This is unacceptable. I was okay spending SO much money on dog food but to find out he was sick because of this new formula makes me irate!

Hey RC: RECALL Gastrointestional Low Fat food!

TheoGirl

A few weeks ago my get had me change our gog from Regular Gastrointestional canned and dry to the Gastrointestional LOW FAT version. I have been using up the regular mixing it in with this until about five days ago when it’s been strictly low fat version. Three days ago he started in with gas and diarrhea. Last night he had us up all night pacing around and wanting to go out. The vet wanted him on low fat because he has been having pancreatitis symptoms but now what? I’m about to spend another hundred bucks plus testing tomorrow to see what’s going on, but I think I know the answer. After all of these reviews, Royal Canine,, why are you not recalling this food?

Horrible experience!

Shame on you Royal Canin. SHAME ON YOU!! I, like all the others who have used RC for years recently (3 months ago) noticed the texture and smell was different. I asked my vet and was told the cans came in upside down causing more moisture to go top side. Really? They had no other answer as RC did NOT notify formula change. My vet is super great and would never ever sell me a product that was suspicious. They were NOT notified of formula change, but my dog sure noticed. So did my carpet and yard. Explosive diarrhea with blood. Eating grass to settle stomach. One middle of night episode was 7 times outside. She is a Maltese mix and would never give me a second of trouble. Poor thing was so confused. Then she stopped eating totally for 2 days. Boiled chicken helped to get something in her. I have used RC Low GI for almost 8 years and it is EXPENSIVE. It was only recently I saw a commercial for RC and thought I might finally be able to purchase directly from company other than exclusively from my vet. So I went online and saw all the reviews. I’m Gobsmacked. No wonder they are advertising, their product must be in the financial red so advertising brings in customers. Not me. Not my dog. I have notified my vet and sent a link of these reviews so they can see for themselves how awful we feel practically unintentionally killing our fur babies. My 12 yr old Maltese mix is a rescue and there isn’t any thing I won’t do for her. She won the lottery with me adopting her. I feel awful thinking all these middle of night poops were my fault. She looks at me like, Mommy help me feel better. If there was a negative number for reviews, I would check that box.

Formula change catastrophe

ShihTzu2

My dog became extremely ill from Royal Canin’s new formula change to the GI prescription food. My dog has been on this food for over five years for pancreatitis and IBD. Suddenly a few months ago he developed chronic diarrhea and vomiting. I spent hundreds of dollars on vet visits. Fecal was normal and antibiotics did nothing to help. They could find nothing wrong with him. I noticed every time I switched him to just plain chicken and rice his symptoms cleared up. Yet once I reintroduced the Royal canin his symptoms returned. That’s when I grew suspicious that there might be a problem with the RC food. I checked RC website for possible recalls or problems and found dozens upon dozens of reviews stating that their dogs were having the same exact issues with the new formula change. I am also perplexed as to why carrageenan is an ingredient in a food that is marketed for GI issues. Research has shown that carrageenan is highly inflammatory and contributes to IBS. Carrageenan can also cause bloating, gas and diarrhea and an increase risk of colon cancer. This ingredient has no place in a food marketed for GI issues. I have since switched my dog over to Hills prescription GI diet and the diarrhea has stopped. My dog has returned to a healthy state.

New batch of this food Causing pancreatitis flareu

acjersey

My dog has chronic pancreatitis and this has been the only food he could eat. However, in the last couple of months, something has changed with the more recent batches of food. My dog’s pancreatitis is back with a vengeance and every time I give him this food he has terrible Flareups and pain and sickness. I cannot feed it to my dog anymore and don’t know what to give him any longer. I beg you Royal Canin please go back to the old low-fat formula that was safe for dogs with pancreatitis. It was the only thing keeping him alive.

Caution!! The new ingredient change cause my dog to get kidney failure!!!! PLEASE don’t feed this to your dogs!!!! I’m heartbroken that this company cares more about money than our sick dogs! The reviews say it all!! They obviously don’t care or they would change the formula back.

Something was Changed -- Stay Away!!!

Came here looking to see if there was any evidence RC changed the Gastro formula, and it appears they have. My dog has had diabetes and was on RC Gastro for 4 years. Two weeks ago, he started having upset stomach and things began coming out of both ends. We took him off the RC wet food and everything cleared up. Trying out Hills ID Low Fat today on vet's recommendation to see if he likes it, but we're not going back to RC. Not sure if there's some way to advise their customers if/when formulas change, but it can have major impacts on certain people/animals when you monkey with things like this... probably just to save a buck somewhere in their supply chain, too. Tossing my one-star of dissatisfaction onto the pile in the hopes others might be spared the hassle.

Beware!

Scared

My dog has been on this food for about 3 or 4 years since he has had pancreatitis and bladder stones. Now he is having stomach issues again and a flare up and crystals are now showing in his bladder. I just read the reviews and see that something bad is going on here with the food! I’m devastated. I don’t know what to feed him now.

My vet put my 64.5 lb female Greyhound on the Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Low Fat loaf today, the 13.6 ounce can size. I can't find a chart to tell me how much to give her daily. She is low activity. Could somebody help me please?

  1. My 20 lb dog is on the Royal Canin Gastrointestinal low-fat  diet. She is also low activity. I give her 1/2 c Royal Canin dry + ~2T wet twice a day.
