In my opinion, it saved my dog’s life! My vet recommended this as well as the wet. My dog has done so much better with her liver issues while eating these two type of dog food. It’s just so hard to find.

My dogs was diagnosed with liver problems so my vet recommended or prescribed this food for her. I have 2 other dogs and they also are with prescription foods and they don’t like it (1 is kidney and the other is weight loss) So when my liver one really devoured her food, I was really happy. Very pricey and we’ll see in the next bloodwork if the food helped.

My dachshund's ALT liver enzymes have improved dramatically however the ALKP liver enzyme has nearly doubled. She was previously diagnosed with chronic hepatitis, so in my opinion, this is to be expected regardless of dietary needs. Her most recent lab work confirmed slightly high calcium levels and her LIPA levels are tgphriugh the roof. I often ask myself if correlation equals causation. Did her previous diagnosis of chronic hepatitis lead to increased calcium and lipa levels or did royal canin hepatic dig food decrease one enzyme but increased another? Is that the trade off for improved ALT? She's almost 17 years of age, so other senior related factors may at play. She almost just prefers the wet food at this point even though she is offered both wet and dry. I'm not the kind of owner who likes giving a dog wet food, so this is noticeable change. She's been having more accidents and increased thirst. Her sundowners or doggy dementia has also gotten worse. There are so many age related factors at this point in time, but I at least wanted to share her most recent lab work results in case others also notice an increase in calcium or LIPA levels with this dog food. She absolutely loves the taste and flavor. She's gained a bit of weight as well, so I don't know if I should add the low gastrointestinal version of this wet food to her diet. I'm still just trying to make her comfortable at this point. I still believe this dog food is logical financially for small dog breeds but I feel awful fior the larger breeds whose lives literally depend on it. Surely, there is a large enough demand to customize this dog food. I hold my grudge against royal canin as chewy has been nothing but phenomenal. She current takes the wet and dry food, milk thistle, blueberries (smashed), denamarin, and urisdoil. I wish there were stronger and more effective medication options out there, but we also received her diagnosis kind of late in the game. I've tried almost everything to get my dog Chicky to eat anything. Fresh food diet is most often recommended for a pup with a liver shunt. I've fixed her literal buffets of different food choices. Currently, the vet from VCA, gave her Hills brand prescription KD dog food. Currently we're trying to reduce the fresh food and increase the dog food. She's being given Royal Canin Hepatic formula kibble and a small amount of Hills brand prescription KD dog food mixed together. Hopefully she'll begin to like it enough to eat it daily. It's an ongoing struggle.

My husband and I have two dogs. One is 75lbs and the other is 35lbs. The girls were both diagnosed with urine crystals. We have been using Royal Canin for two years and no crystals!!

This is the best dog food for dogs with liver issues and the price can’t be beat!

VCA Aurora Animal Hospital, in IL recommended it as Sophi's 1st RX Food she wasn't eating to well. She has a hard time eating still as the kibble is Large and she only eats 1/2 cup daily, she only weighs 2.4 lbs., she's a Teacup Morkie. The food is Very Expensive too!
