Keeps Olympic Ski Jumpers Contained

Cat in Human Form

Apparently my newly rescued cat is an Olympic ski jumper in a parallel universe! This gate keeps phenomenal jumpers contained. My only critique for the manufacturers is: if you would place the lock high up on the door, you could potentially forego the safety stop, and that way the door could swing either way.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Best Cat Gate

Best cat gate out there. Sturdy. Easy to put together. I haven't had a cat figure out how to defeat it yet. None can jump high enough.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Expensive because it is made VERY well

I just received this the other day, and I was super impressed with the quality. All of my friends and family (other than my wife) who I mentioned a "$400 cat gate" to scoffed at me over the high price, when for ~$50 you can get a baby gate or dog gate. But... here's the thing... those baby and dog gates have several problems, and do you know what's really expensive? Two kittens going upstairs, jumping off the loft, and falling 20 feet, so I have to keep them downstairs until they are skilled at balancing, jumping, and not making very risky jumps. Let's talk about the problems with baby gates and dog gates. One, they are often unsightly, and we don't want our house looking like a plastic laundry basket is in our stairway. Two, they are climbable because of horizontal or diagonal surfaces. Three, they aren't tall enough to not be jumped over. Four, the baby ones require a two-handed, annoying procedure to open. Now... let me talk about this product. It's the most high quality build-it-yourself product I've ever assembled from a box. There aren't any paint flaws, the metal is square when it is supposed to be, and rounded when it's supposed to be. It weighs almost 43 pounds because it is made of high quality metal. It took me over 2 hours to carefully assemble (I think almost 3 hours) after I got home from work the other day, and the very detailed instructions were absolutely essential for assembling it correctly. Was it difficult? No, not really, but was it common sense? Also no. It takes a detail-oriented mind that likes following written directions with drawn diagrams to put this together, so if you're the type of person who is prone to fumbling and bodging things together or skipping the instructions, this isn't the gate for you. This doesn't require a rocket scientist to build it, but it's a lot more complicated than the cheap stuff from overseas or the big Swedish store's products where you can look at drawings, get a general idea of the end goal and slam it together. I don't view the assembly process as a negative, because it is well-made enough and versatile enough that you can make it fit your space precisely how you want it to fit. In my case, our stairway is 36 inches wide, so I had to use every part and piece included with this gate. Any wider, and I'd probably need to order another bar or two. The instructions recommend two people assemble this and install it. At just 6 feet tall and an average/slim build, I had no problem by myself, it just took a long time to assemble it all and get the distance between the bars dialed in. Overall, I'm very impressed.

Yes, I recommend this product.

How easy is it to move this gate from place to place? Like if I have several doorways the same size, can I as a single not-terribly strong person just pop it out and swap it? Or would that require multiple people, tools, etc.?

  1. The gate is tension-mounted. Turn the adjuster knob to install it. To move the gate, turn the adjuster knob in the opposite direction, then place it where you want it to be. No tool required. Item weight: 36.7 lbs..

Just want to verify that this item will fit a doorway about 30 inches wide.

  1. The Cat Safety Gate is designed to fit opening between 28.5 - 37.5" wide. 30" wide doorway will fit. Thank you!
