Wonderful gate

It took me some time, but once you get the correct configuration for the opening, this gate looks beautiful. It is sturdy and well-engineered. I like how it can open either way and is the only gate I could find big enough for a 49" opening. The customer reviews were essential in putting it together as I have trim board on the bottom of the wall and wasn't sure whether it was ok to tighten more on the top than the bottom. Indeed it is and I'm so happy I bought it.

Sturdy and secure

Used to keep the 14 week old Bernese Mountain Dog pup out of the entry area and to the stairs. The tension mechanism is secure and he can’t push it over. The gate is not self closing and needs to be placed back in the closed position. Assembly takes a bit of thinking as there is a couple of possible combinations it can be set up with to achieve different widths. Instructions however were thorough and easy to follow. The gate was able to work with the different width at the bottom where the base boards are without compromising strength.
I’m very happy with the gate however I wish I’d bought the taller one as the little fella has made it over once or twice.

We needed a gate that would extend across a 60 inch wide hallway to help contain our 2 dachshunds. This worked out great! I had to remove several of the nuts on the tension holders to allow them to retract enough to get the gate in position. Once that was done the gate fit right into the space. The gate is very easy to open and close. It also swings both directions which makes it easy to contain the dogs when opening and closing the gate. We are extremely satisfied with it.

We have a span of 57 inches and this gate is very sturdy in that span. We are really impressed with its sturdiness, looks and the ease of going through the gate. We would highly recommend this gate to any one.

We have a double door that is 61" wide. We want to keep one side of the door closed and be able to come and go through the open side. Can the Ritchell gate be configured to have the gate on one end, and the fixed rails on the other end?
Is there a gap between the l architecture and frame that only pressure will correct? This is not what g at I would want if so as I am p m Cing on a wall with a pocket door and it pushes the wall in too much.
- The gate uses pressure to secure against the wall. There is a gap between the door and the frame that is reduced by the installation pressure. If the pads have to push against a pocket door this is not a good solution for you. If it pushes against a or pocket door frame it depends on how strong the frame is. If the frame is backed by a 2x4 stud it should be OK, but if it is only a frame against drywall or lathing then I don't recommend a compression gate like this. (I'm sorry my answer is 11 months late. I hope you already found a good solution!)

WE HAVE A SPAN OF 55 & 1/4 INCHES AND WONDER IF THIS GATE WILL FIT?
- The gate is covering a space of 58” in my home. It works great! And I think it could even go a little longer.

I am assuming the entire gate is of wood construction with exceptions of the hardware. What type of wood is it and how much does the gate weight? Would you recommend for outdoors use on an exposed deck?
- Since the gate is tension mount gate, the side frame is made of steel. Door panel is only made of wood, which natural wood and plywood. Item weight is 22 lbs. (One-Touch White Pet Gate II Wide). The gate is designed to use indoor only. Thank you.

Can the tension be set differently for the top rail & bottom? I have a baseboard at the bottom of the hall opening & walls set further back above the baseboards. I need 4 different tension settings.
- As long as baseboard has about 1.5” or more flat surface, it can be set differently for the top and bottom using adjuster knobs. The gate is designed to fit the openings from 32.1-62.8" with 3 different extensions. Depends on the width of opening, you can add all three extensions or take out the one you do not need. Thank you,
