Red Lobsters are very hardy and can live for years in aquariums, growing slowly to a maximum size of around 5 inches. They are considered "reef safe," as they are unlikely to bother corals and anemones, but they will eat clams. They have also been known to consume small fish, especially one that are clumsy swimmers like dragonettes. They will be territorial with other bottom dwelling crustaceans. Lobsters are enthusiastic diggers, so the ideal home includes mixed grain size sand bed and rockwork that is extremely secure. They are also nocturnal; so, plan the rockwork so you can see into some of the caves, that way they can "hide" in plain sight. Do not be alarmed if they are not seen for a few days because after molting the lobster will go into hiding until their new exoskeleton (shell) has hardened. Red Lobsters are primarily scavengers, but should still be offered a supplemental meaty diet for continued health.

ACCLIMATION: Allow the sealed bag with your new fish to float in your aquarium for at least 15 minutes (but no longer than one hour) to ensure the water in the bag matches the temperature in your aquarium. For new aquariums, adding new fish slowly helps to properly develop the nitrogen cycle, which creates a safe environment for your aquatic pets. A bacteria booster may also help develop a new aquarium for your new fish. Petco offers free water testing in store to determine if your water is safe. DIET: A well-balanced diet consists of a variety of flakes, pellets, freeze-dried, and frozen food, depending on the species. FEEDING: Feed sparingly and no more than fish can eat in 1-2 minutes. Overfeeding can quickly foul the water, especially in smaller, unfiltered aquariums.
