Dr. Elsey's Senior Litter absorbs urine and odor on contact and traps it inside the crystals, keeping a cat's genital area clean to help prevent urinary tract infections. Pour one inch of Dr. Elsey's Senior into a clean litter box. Remove solid waste daily and rake crystals to ensure freshness. Litter does not form scoopable clumps. A single litter box filled with Dr. Elsey's Senior can handle multiple cats but we recommend using more than one litter box if you have more than one cat. Crystals may become discolored. The color does not affect the performance. One application will typically last two weeks depending upon use. After two weeks, completely dump the contents of the box and wash with mild soap and hot water. Refill with one inch of Dr. Elsey's Senior.
Do not flush, dispose of litter in trash.

Questions
How do you transition to this litter (or any silica gel litter) from clay? Usually you're supposed to mix some old litter with new litter but clay and this stuff work completely different so I'm not sure if that would work?
- I mixed it so there was similar smell and texture of the clay at first. I stopped using it before I ever completely switched to the silica. It tracked everywhere, much worse than clay litter
Helpful?
is this made in USA
- None of the silica gel litter is made in the US it is manufactured in China.

How tough is the actual litter? My friends cat was dx with skin cancer and needs very soft kitter
- This litter is gritty. The bottom of the litter box is scratched up from cleaning where my cat usually pees.

Does the litter change colors like Pretty Litter? How do they compare?
- No. We had two litter boxes for our elderly cat. We used Dr. Elsey's in the automatic cleaning litter box and we used Pretty Litter in the litter box we had to scoop to clean. They both are fine and produce little dust.

How long will a container last for four cats. Does it track like clay litter.
- We only had one cat, but it would last about a month for one cat. It tracks a little, but we just put a mat outside the litter box and it stays there
Helpful?
Does this litter clump with urine, or is it crystals that absorb the urine an change color?
- It is not a clumping litter. The tiny, sand-like crystals absorb the urine and at the end of the day I just stir them all around with a litter scoop.
Helpful?
my older cat won't clean out his paws, so the litter and residue get stuck in his nails, which become filthy and his stomach and tail are also filthy. Would this litter help prevent this?
- I think so. The crystals don't stick together or stick on the cat. They're find like grains of sand.

How often does the litter need to be changed completely? I have two boxes and 3 litter box users.
- I have one male, Bengal, cat. We use the Modkat XL litter box which measures 21" L x 16.3" W x 17 H". I use one entire (8lb) bag of Dr. Elsey's Senior Cat Litter. This lasts about a month. You need to scoop feces everyday. I also use the scooper to scrap any large areas of heavily soiled litter, with urine, from the bottom of the litter box. Make sure to reintegrate with the drier litter. The wetter litter will integrate with the drier litter even if it doesn't appear like it will. This step is key to making the litter last. This litter is very dehydrating to feces and urine. I change the litter box when the most of white silica starts to turn a light yellow and the blue silica starts to turn a blue/green. This litter will last if you properly clean your litter box. It will not smell during the month but may start to a little bit when the silica starts to change colors. I have been using this for over 5 years now. Only downfall is the dust.

I have a cat with irritable bowel disease and he has pretty nasty poos (soft, not runny, but smelllyyyy). My other cat has stopped using the litter box completely because of this. Would this help with stinky/soft poos?
- Have 2 litter boxes, in case one is smelly. There should always be an alternative box to be used.

What makes this litter specific to seniors? My cat is getting older and am wondering if I should switch, or keep going with what I use now.
- Hi GrapeApe, Senior cats does might not go if the litter is too deep. Due to bone or joint issues. This results in urinary problems. However, this cat litter will help your cat go even if you only put a thin layer.
