Tangs are commonly referred to as surgeon fish due to having a sharp spine that looks like a "scalpel" at the base of their caudal (tail) fin that is used for protection, use caution when handling. Adults tend to live alone in the wild, so they should not be kept with fish that look similar, like other tangs. However, they should be peaceful towards most other tank mates. Adult Powder Blue Tangs are found in shallow, clear coastal and island coral reefs up to 25 meters deep in the Indian Ocean to Western Pacific. They may occur singly or in large feeding groups. They will grow to be about 9" in size and have a blue body with a white chest. Their head is a dark blue to black coloration with a white band below their eyes. The Powder Blue Tang had a vibrant yellow dorsal fin while their anal and pelvis fins are a bright white color. Full grown adults of this tang will need around 150 gallons; however, you can get away with smaller aquariums when they are juveniles.

ACCLIMATION: Avoid exposing new aquatic life to bright lights after opening the box. Turn off aquarium lights prior to floating aquatic life. Allow the sealed bag with your new fish to float in your aquarium for at least 15 minutes (but no longer than one hour) to ensure the water in the bag matches the temperature in your aquarium. A bacteria booster addition can assist with the addition of new aquatic life. Petco offers free water testing in store to determine if your water is safe for the addition of new aquatic life. DIET: A well-balanced diet consists of a variety of flakes, pellets, freeze-dried and frozen foods, depending on the species. FEEDING: Feed sparingly and no more than fish can eat in 1-2 minutes. Overfeeding can quickly foul the water, especially in smaller aquariums.
