Im leaving reviews everywhere that sells this. Please make sure you know EXACTLY how much you need and what to do with this. The measurements, have a backup tank for your fish etc. It cleared the algae but it unfortunately cost us our sweet fish. And let me tell you their deaths were not painless or quick. The one was decently quick but our other was long and brutal and terrible.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Purchased and dosed as stated on the label. This product killed more than half the fish in my tank with ongoing issues I'm having to deal with. Avoid at all cost

BUYER BEWARE - KILLS FISH!

Beware of this product! Deserves 0 out of 5 stars. Sadly, killed ALL of fish in my aquarium after using as directed. Had to breakdown entire tank to get rid of this awful chemical, before restocking. Might work in pond but not in closed environment such as an aquarium.👎🏻😞

No, I do not recommend this product.

Kills Fish

This product kills fish. Even with aerators, I netted out 20 dead bluegill after applying this solution in a 25000 gallon pond, multiple times. Tech support suggested using a microbiological product but said nothing about the dead fish. Probable cause is low oxygen caused by dead algae but would never confirm. Healthy Ponds Aquasphere is a more reliable product and does not kill fish.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I have a 23x18 4 ft deep koi pond/plunge pool. This product added to the water keeps it crystal clear. So clear I have no problem swimming in it when the temperature is in the 80-100s.

Yes, I recommend this product.

While it got rid of my algae...it killed multiple koi in the process. I followed the directions and even tried again halfing the amount I "should" put in. Multiple koi died both time I tried. I have 4 air pumps and a waterfall that creates oxygen as well. Lost a lot of money in the fish. Really not happy with this product.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 10 of 30 Questions
Sort by: Newest Answers

Can this product be used for a fountain that birds use for a bathtub and drinking fountain?

  1. Yes, as long as the product is dosed accordingly to the label and volume of water.

Can you use it in swimming pools

  1. This is not recommended for swimming pools, only ornamental ponds.

algae removal from pond

  1. Meekoda, Thank you for your question. The API Algaefix is not safe for animals drinking from your pond. We recommend the CrystalClear® AlgaeOff. https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=5163+5255+16592&pcatid=16592

Safe for bees

  1. Mojos Thank you for your question. The Algaefix is not harmful to bees, as long as you are following the correct dosage.

Will AlgaeFix kill beneficial bacteria that exists in the pond? If so, how many days do you wait to add bacteria?

  1. Thank you for your question. Algaefix will not significantly impact your beneficial bacteria when used as directed.

Will this prevent mold from developing in my water barrels?

  1. Thank you for your question. We cannot guarantee that this would prevent mold from developing in your water barrels.

When I pump/clean the filter the pond water is used to water plants/trees in the garden. If I use Algae Fix will it harm plants?

  1. Thank you for your question. This product is safe for use with pond plants and should not hurt garden plants either when used as directed.

Is anything else I should use for GREEN WATER.?

  1. Thank you for your question. We do suggest using a Submersible UV Clarifier to help eliminate the algae.

Will this kill duckweed?

  1. Irma, Thank you for your question. Controlling duckweed includes the physical removal of duckweed and watermeal plants. Wait for a windy day when the breeze can assist in controlling duckweed. When plants are pushed to the sides and edges of the pond, manually remove them with a long handled swimming pool net or other appropriate device that can reach the duckweed and scoop them out of the water. Manual removal alone is not enough to get rid of duckweed, but can help with reducing the amount. This practice must be repeated. Get rid of duckweed before it takes over the pond by increasing aeration at the bottom, manually removing plants from the surface and reducing nutrients that create bottom sediment.

If there are fresh water turtles in my pond, will it be fine to use Algae Fix?

  1. My pond only has tadpoles, not fish, heron took care of them last year. Tadpoles don't seem to mind it.
