Great product but 1/2" requires 1.14" hole

Products themselves are solid and well made. The posted required hole diameter on the product page is mistaken when it says you need a 1.125" hole for the 1/2" Diameter Bulkhead. I bought (3) 1/2" and they were all Thread OD of 1.14". Now I understand that when you cut a hole you often end up with slightly oversized or undersized holes depending upon quality of the bit. On my Acrylic Aquarium they were dead on 1.125". That being said I simply broke out some 100 grit sandpaper wrapped around a jumbo marker and opened up the hole. Should you be dealing with a Glass hole you may not be so lucky. So not sure if the MFG over sized the OD of the threads or the hole size was misprinted. I think the threads are correct and the chart is off. The 1" Bulkhead has a thread OD of 1.680" so the chart listed hole req of 1.75" is OK. I didn't buy any other sizes but keep it in mind. If your stuck with glass you may be able to sand the threads OD to reach a tighter hole, insert bulkhead, wrap exposed threads in pipe tape and then tighten the nut.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Not using for a aquarium so thread length was short but the table I'm using is hollowed core. Sorry not much to say about the bulkhead it's a good solid product

What valve can I use with this fiting

  1. Thank you for your inquiry. We have provided a link below to the Threaded Airline Pipe Valve we have available. https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=8165

are these bulkheads long enough to go thru a 2" piece of wood with liner?

  1. Thank you for your question. I reached out to our fish team for help with it, and our specialist replied with the following: Item #18981 and item #18982 are about 3-1/2” in length, so those would be the only ones that would be able to go through the 2” thick piece of wood. Whether or not there is enough of the bulkhead to thread tubing to will depend on the other plumbing materials the customer is using.

What type of plasic is this bulkhead, pvc, abs or something else? Want to make sure I use the proper glue.

  1. Thank you for your quesiton. The Bulkhead fitting are made for PVC. tah

Bulkhead Fitting in Barrel

  1. Thank you for your question. We apologize, you would not be able to install this Bulkhead Fitting, without reaching inside of the barrel. ajl

how do i know what size bulk head to get

  1. depends on how much flow (gpm) your pump is going to be. Each bulkhead has a max flow rate (gpm) for that size fitting.

Standard Bulk Head Fitting

  1. Think outside is always threaded, standard bulkhead should be slip/glue joints on both inside connections(top and bottom). Double threaded bulkheads would be threaded inside and out. I do believe they make weird ones that are slip one side threaded other side but those would be labeled that way. The standard is slip on both inside connections.
