I have had this system for 3 years and it’s still going strong with 2 collars. At first I thought it was kinda pricey but after this long with no problems if it went out tomorrow I’d spend the money again

We have a 70lb lab and we live in the country, on a 50 mph road. Trust me, some people ignore the speed limit signs. We bought the PetSafe Stay & Play Wireless Fence in Feb. 2020 and our dog has never gone near the fence. I know exactly where the perimeter is because when I'm doing yard work on our acre yard, he stops, lays down, and watches me work. I've tried calling him to me to see if he would break the barrier and he absolutely won't. He's gone outside a few times without his collar, but he still knows his boundary and stays put. I am very confident that our dog is safe and contained from going into the road. Just shy of two years and it's still going strong!!!

No, I do not recommend this product.

Horrible! Run don’t walk! Honest & detailed review

No faith in Petco now

The first 2 weeks through MANY rounds of training it was fine in our totally flat yard. During the third week it required charge. After the first charge and during the third week even on the highest setting the collar would randomly not work. We would turn it off and back on and it would suddenly work. I dedicated Many hours to training, setting flags in my flat yard and almost memorized the manual trying to train my 6 lb dog - all for nothing! I noticed the product is suddenly $110 dollars cheaper than it was three weeks ago. I can’t help but assume it’s because Petco knows this is a horrible product and they are trying to get rid of it quickly.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Can you add another transmitter so the dog will have a larger area to run? If so how does it work?

No, I do not recommend this product.

Working for 9 years and still going.

I have had this for 9 years. I had to buy a new receiver, but other than that it is working every day as it should. We breed and raise Chocolate Labs, and even the hardest head is discouraged from going through the field. The radius adjustment works just the way it should. I have just recommended this to my brother-in-law for his golden retriever. Also we live on a hill and it works even when dogs are about 10 feet below the transmitter.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I love this product. I use it at home and when I travel. Set up is so simple how long can be adjusted to very small areas when needed. Also when we go camping I use a campsite.

Questions

1 - 8 of 8 Questions
Sort by: Newest Answers

Will this work with model RFA 608 to extend coverage?

  1. Thank you for asking about this! Yes, this transmitter is the RFA-608 transmitter, and will be compatible with another one to create a larger boundary. Both boundaries will need to overlap by a minimum of 30 feet, and both transmitters will need to be placed in a fully indoor, climate controlled location.

How much does the base unit weigh?

  1. Thank you for your question! The main transmitter weighs 1 pound.

Have you had problems before with the power adapter arcing and shocking the dogs? Or it the base itself is sitting on a rod iron table, causing shock signals to the collars even when the dogs are inside the house? Or during a thunderstorm?

  1. Thank you for these questions. There are no reported issues of our power adapters arcing. However, it is worth sharing that Our Stay & Play Wireless Pet Fence does not have a built in battery back-up in the event of a power outage. We recommend the use of an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) for use with your wireless fence. In rare instances, if your pet is near the boundary at the time when the power fails, it is possible that your pet will receive a correction. This correction will stop after a 15 second timeout period has been reached. This is due to the operation of the collar: the collar is activated by the absence of the containment signal. Your pet should also never wear this style of containment collar indoors and the transmitter should not be within 5ft of large amounts of metal. This will help avoid any interference situation that may cause the collar to think the pet has left the boundary and provide a correction. We hope this information is helpful. Please give us a call at 1-800-732-2677 should you need further product assistance.

Are the transmitters weather resistant?

  1. Thank you for your great question. None of our fence transmitters are weather resistant. For any of our In-Ground Fence or Wireless Fence, the transmitter must be housed indoors in a weatherproof, climate-controlled, well ventilated area.

We just got a new transmitter from petco  in the mail this week and it is making a static electricity/interference noise even after unplugged. Any idea what that is?

  1. We're sorry to hear you're having this issue with your transmitter, Jillian! This is certainly unusual; so that we can troubleshoot with you and determine what may be causing this, please contact our Customer Care team. Our number is 1-800-732-2677, and our current hours are Monday through Friday 8 A.M.- 6 P.M. EST and Saturdays 9 A.M.- 5 P.M. EST.

Replacement charger? We lost our charger for our transmitter and are wondering how we can get a new one. Thank you!

  1. We're sorry to hear your adaptor cord has been lost! Though this transmitter does not have a charger, the adaptor cord to connect it to the wall can be purchased separately. The model number is RFA-464. If you have any questions, please get in touch with us! Our number is 1-800-732-2677, and our hours are Monday through Friday 8 A.M.- 8 P.M. EST and Saturdays 9 A.M.- 5 P.M. EST.

Can this be used as a system by itself or only combined with other system

  1. Hi Louise! We certainly appreciate your interest in our Wireless Pet Fences. This listing is for the transmitter only, to have a complete pet fence system you will need to add a collar which will be listed under SKU# PIF00-14288. Should you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out to us at 1-800-732-2677.

We have a house on the top of a hill with s lake at the bottom. Does this product work well on a hill?

  1. Thank you for your question, Beth! The wireless fence systems work best on a flat, level yard. If you have dramatic changes in elevation in your yard, the signal from the transmitter may not be able to reach those areas where the elevation dips upward or downward, which can create issues with reduced range and inconsistent collar activation. If this is the case with your yard, we'd instead recommend the use of an in-ground fence system, such as the one found at the following link, which works in a similar way but does not have this drawback: https://www.petco.com/shop/ProductDisplay?urlRequestType=Base&catalogId=10001&categoryId=&productId=14218&errorViewName=ProductDisplayErrorView&urlLangId=&langId=-1&top_category=&parent_category_rn=&storeId=10151
