The feeder components are top-rack dishwasher safe to make cleaning simple. Feeder includes an AC power adaptor and has a backup battery option using 4 D alkaline batteries (not included). To connect your PetSafe Smart Feed Automatic Pet Feeder to your smartphone app, a 2.4GHz (802.11b/g/n) router is required. Devices that work with the mobile app are iPhones or iPods with iOS 9.0 or later and compatible Android smartphones version 6.0 or later. App not working
I’m sure the product is great as I have not yet used it. The app will not let me get past email verification on any devices. I’d only recommend this product when they fix the app bugs.

It Works... Until It Doesn’t
I wanted to love the PetSafe Smart Feed feeder. For a while, I did love it. It was reliable, looked good, and took the mental math out of mealtimes for my cat. At first, it was basically a plastic butler, serving up kibble on schedule without fail.
But alas, this dream didn’t last. After a couple years of standard, uneventful use, it started skipping meals with mysterious error codes. Because, what pet product wouldn’t you want to build suspense when you have a cat that would literally go through you if there was a meal on the other side? But, I digress. I followed all the troubleshooting instructions, cleaned the thing like it was a new car I wanted to show off, and chalked it up to a one-time mysterious occurrence.
Boy was I wrong! Soon after, the unit decided it was done entirely. It told me there was a mechanical error and now it does nothing but sit there taunting me. No more feedings. No more blinking lights. Just a sad, silent monument to what once was.
And here’s the thing, it’s not like this feeder is running a marathon every day. The motor turns a few seconds, a couple times a day. That’s it. This isn’t a high-performance appliance that takes a beating every day. So, when it gives up the ghost this early, you can’t help but question the build quality. At this price, I'd expect something that would last more than a couple of years, not one that retires early with full benefits.

poor delivery experience
When I received the cat feeder, the box was unusually damaged. Both the outer box and the inner packaging were broken. It looked like someone had tried to see what was inside. If I had ordered an iPhone instead, it probably would have been stolen.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Awesome feeder
Amazing! I've always wanted to try an automatic feeder, and this one is great. High quality and bowl is large enough for my cat to not feel out of place next to the machine (she can be skittish). Thanks so much!!!

Great but Not Smart Smart...
The only Assistant support is Alexa... Not sure why the developers wont add Google or SmartThings. Don't buy if you use Google Hub Etc. Waste of Money. If anything add support to work with Third Party Smart Apps like Tuya.

Not great for larger kibble.
I know they have said this works well with my sizes of Bible but it really does not. Our dog is on adult weight control kibble and it is bigger than the small pellets for regular food.
The hopper can be full and the food will not go up through the elevator to go out the front to feed our dog.
It’s telling me she is being fed and she’s not. I recently got a job working outside of my home where I cannot listen to how much is actually hitting the floor (we have it elevated so she won’t raid the hopper…she is a lab and very smart).
It is frustrating because my dog ate rocks a couple weeks ago because she was hungry and I had no idea she was not being fed!
Please do not say this works for larger kibble. There ISa limit. And it gets clogged with the bigger ones. We have to keep it propped in the back so the small area in the back where the elevator track scoops the kibble will actually pick up the kibble and take it up the track to go out and feed her. It worked great for the first year and when I was working from home I knew if she was actually getting food when it went off. Now I don’t! Argh!
So disappointed.

Stopped working in under two years
I really liked this feeder but one day the LED light turned off and the feeder completely stopped working, must be some electrical failure in the machine. I expected it to last a bit longer given the price.

My cat has figured out that she can nudge my existing autofeeder (not this brand) in order to dispense just a little more food. Would this one prevent nudging ?
- Ii nudged mine and only 2 morsels of food came out. So, it may not always, just depends on the position of the feeding mechanism.

I bought this and it is working great. I have batteries inside as well as being plugged in. I was wondering if I were away and the router /modem stopped working, would the device still dispense food? Love your produt.
- If there is a disconnect to the internet/modem, unfortunately this will not dispense. This is why I always make sure to ask for a sitter if I am away for more than a day/day.5 (well, that and someone to feed my cat her wet food- dry food is not meant to be a cat's whole diet)

Can these be used outside
- No, it does not appear to be weatherized for full outdoor use. It may be suitable for use in a garage or on a covered patio where it will not get wet or be exposed to extreme temperatures. Otherwise, I would advise inside use is best.

How do you get the conveyer to stop running so you can set it up? I even tried putting my dogs food in it and all it did was spit it all back out again. I have tried unplugging it for a couple days and still does the same thing.

Hello is this unit cat tamper proof? My cat will lay on his side and reach into my existing pet safe feeder to wiggle more food out which eventually ruins the plastic dispensing wheel.
- Thank you for this question! While no feeder is completely tamer proof, the PetSafe Smart Feed utilizes a flap inside of the hopper to prevent your cat from tampering with the food inside.

Will the feeder work on just the wifi or is the adapter/batteries required for operation?
- Thank you for your question! The adaptor and batteries are required to power the feeder. The WiFi connection is only used to program the feeder schedule and to dispense additional meals as needed from your phone.

Does it still dispense food if the internet / wi fi is down or electricity is off?
- Thank you for your question! As long as you have good batteries placed in the feeder so that it is able to rely on them for backup power, it will continue to dispense its normal scheduled meals. If there is no power at all or the batteries are depleted, the feeder will power off and will not dispense meals.
