Poor Design Leads to Leaks and Smells
We have had a PetSafe ScoopFree Original (purple lid) litter box for about five years and it worked great. After a recent move with a decided to stick with PetSafe an upgrade to the newest generation. Unfortunately, with current design flaws, we cannot recommend this product at all.
Firstly, it’s the design of the plastic cover hood that appears to have a tight fit to the plastic frame, however its curvature causes all of the cat pee to pool in the crevices of the plastic frame, instead of going down into the litter (as pictured).
Secondly, little plastic tabs on the sides that can be used to remove the metal rake for cleaning are not tight with the rest of the plastic frame. Again, this causes significant amount of cat pee to pool and those crevices that are nearly impossible to clean leading to bad smells.
Finally, while the design of the new litter box looks slick, the plastic frame has a very tight fit over the cardboard that contains litter. This often time causes damage to the sides of the cardboard, causing spills of the litter.
All of these flaws, make this product really hard to like, especially at this price point, so it’s a 1/5.

Not as good as previous version
I had the older version of this with the purple top and loved it. This one is good but not as good. It is harder to clean. It leaks through the seams of the top and bottom. It was really a mess after one week of use. I preferred the older version.

Stopped working after two months

So originally, I had a review for this and I guess they took it down. At first, I was enamored by this. There was no smell, everyone said that the lavender litter was better than the blue one so I started buying the lavender one and it is so much better. But when the box got up to 199 which is how many times it’s raked the litter it stops working.
There’s a QR code on the back of the cardboard box and I was refilling the cardboard box so that I didn’t have to buy another one, but it stops working after 199 and it will not work no matter how many times you turn it on or off.
So then I bought the metal reusable one and it doesn’t recognize it. So now I have to keep buying the pet safe litter trays every 2 months.
I haven’t bought a new cardboard box. I don’t even know if it’s going to work, but there is no troubleshooting. You have to change the box. So if you’re willing to risk buying it and having it stop working at 199 go for it as it is a nice litter box after all, but as of now it’s not working for me.

I like it more than my cat does!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love this litter box! It's about the same size as your average, large litter box. It cleans itself every so often, you barely hear it, and I don't smell my cats, at all, anymore! The crystal litter is great because there's no dust! My cat was a little taken aback by it and it did take her a while to finally use it, but has come around.

Efficient and Simple
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Super easy to set up and use. It’s extremely helpful if I go out of town for a few days, I don’t have to worry about my cat using a dirty litter box. The noise is relatively quiet. I like that it comes with a hood for the box as well to prevent mess and reduce odor.

Budget automated litter box
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Overall like this litter box but it is large! Definitely need to make sure you have enough space. The one thing I don't love about this unit is how the replacement litter works, but it is nice to cut down on scooping

Not for big cats
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product is well-crafted and feels sturdy. It's aesthetically pleasing as far as litter boxes go with the exception of the big blue light (more on this later). I really wanted this to work out. The problem? I have a big orange cat with orange cat tendencies. After trying to coax him into it for the past month or so he's only stepped his paws into it about 6 times. Day 1 was great, he explored and then ran off. Day 2, I heard the cleaning cycle trigger so I went to look and found Morris staring at it. After a week or so I realized that perhaps he was too tall for it and he coulding squat comfortably, so I took off the lid and removed one of his other litterboxes to incentivize him -- no luck. I'm writing this review now because I'm overdue for the review and I think I've officially given up. So I removed the tape I applied over the cleaning cycle display and sure enough the count is as 7 (-1 for the initial setup gives us 6). Why the tape? Well because the light that tells you how many cleaning cycles it's completed can light up a whole room even with 3 layers of black tape over it.

Favorite cat product!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My big guy use to absolutely hate using the litter box cause he had such a hard time covering up his “business” so to say but with this one it does it all for him! Now not only do we not have to worry about the smell but scooping as well!
