Easy to set up for your sliding glass patio door

Two dog owner

It did fit lengthwise but could not use the brackets to secure the fit on my frame. The top spring fit piece is what holds this unit place with using backer rod foam I had on hand which I put on one side of unit(wall side) to keep centered on track. My dogs do love it after about three days of learning how to go in and out of the dog door!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This couldn't come fast enough. We have 3 dogs always wanting to go in and out. We visited a friends recently and they had this door. Since we have purchased no more constant up and downs with letting the pups out. Great quality

Gaps Everywhere!!

And a slight 5 mile an hour breeze blows the door open with ease. The sweep only lasted a day before the glue died leaving yet more gaps on the backside, that was AFTER adding more weatherstripping.

Definitely Disappointed

I’ve used your regular dog doors for over a decade and loved them. I specifically bought your patio dog door because of those experiences. I was really disappointed. - Opening up the package, the rubber window seal was just loosey goosey in the box, completely unraveled with no bag. This kinked the middle. I was still able to install it to the door. 24 hours later, the rubber is lying on the floor. The adhesive strip was still on the door, so it wasn’t an install problem. Your rubber peeled away from Your pre-installed glue strip. Then I had to peel that glue off and use a solvent to clean up the mess. This is a material incompatibility problem. - The instructions for install aren’t clear. Bad verbiage and poor pictures. More pictures/diagrams would be highly recommended for all aspects. A UX designer would have fixed this. - Once I got the door in the frame, I realized there’s a visible gap between the sliding door and the panel. You offered no weatherproofing. When I went to your YouTube channel about the install, just in case I messed up (I didn't, again, poor instructions), YOUR video also shows a sizable gap with light coming through. There are several comments asking about this. Your replies basically say: sorry, go buy some weather stripping. - The lock mechanism is a joke. This essentially renders the sliding aspect of a sliding door useless. In order to open the door, you have to bend over and pull a pin out. So much for usability and accessibility. Didn’t you do user-testing? - Even with your lock, there is no pressure to hold the door tight against the dog panel. I have to use the broomstick method, also recommended by other disappointed users in the comments. Yo… what happened here?

Heats ourside during windy weather

The sliding glass door insert is alright, but whenever we their is winds, the flap keeps blowing open letting heat and AC out. Stronger magnets should be used to avoid this issue. Would make the door more energy efficient and save customers money from heat and AC loss. I have the extra large door.

Does this pet door work on wooden patio door

  1. I don't think so. It is intended to fit into a glass slider door.

What are the dimensions of the bottom panel? Our dog is getting older and can't step over the higher risers.

  1. 4 1/2 inches

Can I buy a new door flap mine is coming apart

  1. Thank you for your great question. You can find replacement vinyl flaps for this door here: https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/petsafe-replacement-flap-for-freedom-doors

Should I get large air extra large for German Shepard

  1. Thank you for your great question. To find the best size door for your dog, we recommend measuring his shoulder height and width. Compare these measurements to the sizing chart, and this will tell you which size will be best for him

My sliding height is 87 1/2 inches tall, would this patio panel fit within my sliding door?

  1. According to the Petsafe website, the panel will accommodate openings up to 80 11/16 inches.

Will the large tall work with a 140 lb Newfoundland? About 16” chest width and 28” height at shoulder?

  1. I doubt that even the X-Large door would be large enough.

Does this work with vinyl sliding glass doors?

  1. Yes, however depending on your sliding vinyl glass doors when you open the doors, the opening may be too narrow.

We have a vinyl sliding door, but are not wanting to permanently install the patio panel. Since pops into place, we thought we'd put it in when we plan to be gone for the day and take it out when we return home. Will it hurt the frame to use it this way?

  1. It’s not an easy take out and put back in type of doggie door. Matter of fact, it’s fairly difficult.

Can you put this door in place and use the door way to go in and out also .

  1. I have it in my slider and it allows us to use the sliding door and the dogs can go in and out as they need.

What is the rise of the large tall?

  1. Thank you for this question! The Large-Tall Petsafe Freedom Patio Panel will have a rise of 8¼". If you have any additional questions please feel free to reach out to us at 1-800-732-2677. We would be happy to help!
