Not great for hollow doors

Ljcorby

Purchased and installed on hollow interior door and there is a gap which could hurt the cats. What is your recommendation for this? Do you make a tunnel for this door?

I bought this for a hollow door, you have to measure the frame to lower the template to the proper place. Then the main plate does not attach to the backing plate on the other side of the door, it will just fall off & you see the inside of the door as they don’t attach. I returned it and spent the added money at Home Depot to get the quality door. This is just my experience, you may find something legally different in opinion…

No, I do not recommend this product.

Fixed an old door

Dale O.

I had this exact door in an outside wall for years. The only difference was a magnet in the door and frame to assist in keeping the door shut. Door broke, got the new one, (no magnet) swapped the magnet and snapped the new door into the old frame. Perfect fix!!!

Still Great, But Not as Great as Old Model

I was super stoked to find this door still available after my first purchase 20-some years ago. The flap in my original purchase started falling out, so I decided to look for a replacement. It's a little bit different, though. One side of the frame fit in the existing hole in my bedroom door. The other side for some reason will take some adjustments to either the frame itself or the hole. The new ones no longer have fuzzies to keep the draft out, or magnets to keep the flap from swinging back and forth. When I mention a draft, I'm told the door is not meant to be used as an exterior door. That's not how I'm using it. My bedroom is in a lower level in an old house. There are drafts everywhere. I bought narrow fuzzies from an outside company, but they were not long enough and are basically useless. The magnets are missed! The flap would swing for a long time after a pet goes through the door, and swing when I open or close the door. It makes noise and I didn't like it. I broke the magnets out of my old flap but was only able to use the one in the flap. I had another small round magnet that I stuck in the bottom, and it seems to work ok. At least it doesn't swing aimlessly now. All in all, I'm still happy to have found this same door.

Flap has gaps around it

April F

It appears to be missing any sort of insulation material around the flap, so there's an air gap between the flap and the door opening. That's a huge energy suck during winter months. I'm disappointed because I'm pretty sure I've purchased this model before and it had a fuzzy material around the flap, which helped with insulation. It's not really worth returning it at this point so I'm donating it to a thrift store. Kind of a waste.

It’s a perfect way to designate a place for the litter box and the obvious odor and scatters to one hidden area. Mine is the garage.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Ehh it's alright

I bought this product bout a year ago. I liked it at first but then I started noticing how loudly it squeaks when the cats come through. Then, per their directions, the duct tape we used, covering the cut of the door, started getting ripped from the cats trying to claw past the locked door. Not long after that the adhesive sticking side popped off exposing the duct tape. Then the duct tape started to get shredded and my cats name tag got stuck to it, he couldn't move. Then my other cat figured out how to unlock it

No, I do not recommend this product.

We&#39;re sorry to hear this Cat Flap is not the best fit for your situation. Based on your description, since you have a hollow core door, one of our cat doors with a built in tunnel may be a better fit. We would love to help you find the best door for your situation. Please give us a call at 1-800-732-2677 for further assistance. <img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/stratos-logos/logos/PetSafe.jpeg" alt="PetSafe" title="PetSafe" style="display: block !important; margin-top: 2em !important; border: 1px solid #ccc !important; padding: 2px !important; background-color: white !important;" /> <!--[if ReviewResponse]><![endif]-->

Door works as stated

Michael B.

I purchased this door to install in my door to my basement where we have our exercise equipment. Our cats love to be down there with us but they are curious and try to jump on the treadmill when we are using it. This door was easy to install. Locking it is a bit tricky but once it is done, it keeps our cats out. Our one cat is a brute, very strong, and it keeps him out. Very impressive.

is the door weather stripped at all? if i put this in a wall.

  1. Thank you for your question. The PetSafe Cat Flap does not include any weather-stripping as it is intended for indoor use only.

What are the measurements

  1. Thank you for this question! The frame of the PetSafe Cat Flap measures 7 ½” x 8 1/8”.

Does this door close quietly?

  1. All depends on if your cat Superman’s through it or not mine does. It does close quietly other than that.

Can this door be one-way. Only out and not in.

  1. Thank you for your great question. This door has only two features: completely unlocked or completely locked. It does not have an in-only feature or an out-only feature. For this, you would want to see one of our Four-Way Cat Flaps: https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/petsafe-deluxe-cat-flap https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/petsafe-4-way-locking-cat-flap https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/petsafe-big-cat-cat-flap

Can you use this without the flap?

  1. It comes pre-assembled so you’d have to break the ‘hinges’ to take the door (flap - its solid plastic, not a flexible material) off

What are the overall dimensions width x height ?

  1. Thank you for your great question. The pet door frame for this cat flap measures 7½" x 7⅞" (19.1 cm x 20 cm). The flap opening measures 5¾" x 5¾" (14.6 cm x 14.6 cm).

Can you tell me where this product was manufactured?

  1. Thank you for your great question. To keep costs affordable for our customers, we have manufacturing set up in China, Mexico, Vietnam, and Taiwan. Please note that we maintain the same quality standards for all of our products as if they were manufactured domestically.

What is the recommended rough opening cut for this unit? thanks much

  1. I cut my opening at about 6 1/4" x 6 3/4"

Is this an in and out accessible item? Meaning the cat can go out when they want and come back in when they want? Can it also be installed in a sliding glass window?

  1. Yes, cats can go in and out. It can also be locked so they can't if you want. We use it so the cats have access to their litter box behind a closed/locked interior door. Not sure about the glass door, that would definitely require a professional with experience cutting glass. You need to cut a hole and screw in two pieces from either side.

I already have a cat door. The flap broke and I'm trying to replace it.why don't they have the measurements for it???

  1. Thank you for your great question. The flap for this door is not an individually replaceable part. It only comes with the whole door. The flap measures about 5¾" x 5¾" (14.6 cm x 14.6 cm)
