Horrible disappointment

The longest setting throws the ball 5 feet. At best. The dog doesnt even have to run. Just takes a step. Yes I adjusted the settings. Its not a good product. Or sell it for indoor use only. The longest distance is still safe inside. Not happy at all.

I purchased this toy 2 years ago my dog absolutely LOVES it! It took me a couple years to train her to drop the ball by herself but now she’s finally got the hang of it! Unfortunately, this toy is very finicky and glitches out and stops working. The toy will be working perfectly and then, all of a sudden it just gives an “error” beep or it senses motion in the front acts as if there’s something there, but there isn’t. What’s weird is that it’s never consistent. You never know if it’s going to work. We’re lucky enough if we can get one throw out of it. So, for about 6 months I’ve been properly troubleshooting as suggested. I’ve literally done everything: take it apart to clean, clean off the sensors, re-solder loose connections...EVERYTHING! Sometimes, when I do these things it will start to work again, other times I can’t get it to work properly for weeks. When I called to explain the issue of course it just magically starts to work again. Well, that only lasted a day before it started glitching out again. They told me to try using an UC adaptor to use it stating that it is probably a power issue. It can’t be a power issue as the machine is beeping and lighting up and doing all what it’s supposed to do until it’s about to launch and then won’t. This you isn’t cheap and it’s a waste of money when I can’t even get consistent use out of it. Very sad about it because the toy is phenomenal when it works!

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great Launcher

This is a great ball launcher, just too loud when launching the ball. Doesn’t seem to scare our dog but I wouldn’t want to be holding a baby when it launches- they would probably start crying!

Great toy for dogs larger than mine!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is an absolutely amazing toy, HOWEVER, my dogs are small and this is just too much. That being said, I gave it to my friend with a larger dog and they LOVED IT. This thing is a cannon and launches the ball a good distance. It seems well constructed too. The only reason it's 4 out of 5 is being its so loud. this is strictly an outdoor toy.

Not for my German Shepherd

I was really looking forward to having my dog play with this. She is a 4 year old German Shepherd that is full of energy. I was shocked at how loud it was. My dog was terrified of it and would not play with it. I tried treats and other ways to try and get her to play with it but she refused. I would not recommend due to the loud noise it makes.

My dogs love it, wish you could use lacrosse balls

We bought this for our dogs for Christmas. They love it. But they are strong chewers so we are going through tennis balls pretty quickly. My dogs are more used to playing with lacrosse balls, because they last longer for them. Wish the launcher could handle those.

Is the ball launcher waterproof in case it rains and it’s outside?

  1. Thank you so much for reaching out to us. We would not recommend using or leaving the ball launcher in the rain.

Is the ball launcher water proof in case it’s outside and rains?

  1. Thank you so much for reaching out to us. We would not recommend using or leaving the ball launcher in the rain.

Is the medium size fine for small to medium size dogs? Also can we use any ball we have around because tennis balls tend to get ruined from them chewing on the balls.

  1. Thank you for your great question. The ball launcher does not come in alternate sizes. It is tested for use with standard size tennis balls. Smaller balls may be used, but results may vary on how well the balls are thrown.

My backyard is very sandy so all of our tennis balls become coated with it in a matter of seconds so will this stand up to that and is it easy to clean out?

  1. Thank you for your great question, Kynn. The Automatic Ball Launcher isn't designed to be taken apart easily at home, and sand could get caught in the gears. Due to this, the Automatic Ball Launcher may not be the best option for your home.

Where can i purchse additional balls. Regular tennis balls don't last 10 minutes with my large dogs.

  1. Thank you for your great question. We do offer the PetSafe tennis balls in three-packs as part number PAC00-16020. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us directly at PetSafe at 1-800-732-2677, and we'll be happy to help.

Does this automatically start again after the 15 minute interval? Or do I have to press another button for it to restart?

  1. This is a great question! Yes, after 15 minutes of play, the unit will 'sleep' for 15 minutes. When this time is up if the power has not been turned off, it will begin another 15 minutes of play.

A couple of questions: Does it take regular sized tennis balls? What is the speaker for? Approximately how long does the battery last between charges?

  1. Thank you so much for your questions! We do recommend the use of regular sized tennis balls with this ball launcher. The speaker on the launcher plays varying tones- powering on, powering off, when the unit is prepared to accept a ball, etc. Information on these tones can be found in the manual. This unit takes non-rechargeable D batteries; with a daily play session, these batteries will last around 70 days. This time frame will vary based on use/play sessions per day, etc.
