Top door annoying, but great crate overall

I have 2 Petmate kennels (19" and 24") and they're your basic hard-sided carrier. All's well & good, though the top-load door is more obnoxious than it's worth - it will NOT stay open on its own, so if you're going to load your pet in from the top, know you'll need one hand available to hold the top door open. If you're loading into the front, you'll have no problem.

These are awesome for cats. Solid, secure, and well vented. Easy to get them into and out of without too much drama.

The best carrier I found in all my shopping

Very well-made and sturdy carrier which allows you to put your pet in either through the front or through the top which is very handy. This is my second purchase of this particular carrier as I previously owned a 19 inch version for my kittens and this is the 24 inch version. The best carrier I have come across and I’ve shopped around quite a lot

Sturdy, lightweight. Love having two door options. I gave mine to my daughter when she got her cat (and bought a crummy carrier!) so this is my 2nd purchase of the same exact one. It’s that good.

After much researching, I decided to go with Petmate to transport my 8.5 lb cat on car rides and was very happy with this decision! I love that I can put her in the top and close it quickly as she is an expert escape artist. Have tried the zippered models but she busts out while I’m still fiddling with the zippers with both hands. Highly recommend this model!

A toy Sheltie that is very comfortable in this Ken

A very well made Kennel with simply a very easy way of securing your pet in his kennel by way of an ingenous top door that is easy to use and you don't have to get down to the floor to use the access to the verticle door. it takes me only about 5 seconds to deposit my dog in the Kennel from the top door.

I love this kennel. The top opening makes it so much easier to put in my scared cat.

Questions

1 - 4 of 4 Questions
Sort by: Newest Answers

What is maximum weight a pet can be?

  1. The maximum is up to 15 lbs.

whe re can I get a replacement door for this 24' petmate carrier?

  1. Please contact the manufacturer for assistance.

Does the crate top come off for easy access for veterinarian visits? If not, can you recommend a carrier.

  1. Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, this 2 door top loading kennel is designed with exactly that in mind! For a more detailed item description, please visit our website at www.petmate.com. Sincerely, Petmate Consumer Services

What is the size of the opening on the top of carrier? Does it have wheels on it's bottom. Will it comfortably hold a 15 lb. cat who hates going into my present pet carrier, only small front door.

  1. Thank you for your inquiry. The top door opening is 13 5/8" L x 7" W. For the safety of your pet we do not manufacture for our kennels and wire crates. The external dimensions for this 24" kennel is 24.05" L x 16.75" W x 14.5" H and the interior dimensions are 21" L x 14.5" W x 13.5" H - please note that you must take into account the curvature of the kennel. The recommend weight range is up to 15lbs. The best way to select the perfect kennel size for your pup is to measure them from the top of the head to the floor, then from the tip of the nose to the base of his tail. The height of the kennel should be 3-4 inches taller and longer than your pet so there's ample space to fully stand up, easily turn around and comfortably lie all the way down. Too small and your pet will be uncomfortable; too large and your pet might attempt to use the bathroom in his space. Hope this helps! Sincerely, Petmate Consumer Services
