DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT

I purchased this item 10 days ago. Due to the way this is manufactured, my turtle became trapped underneath and drowned. I am ashamed to say I did not read enough reviews beforehand to discover that this is a reoccurring problem this product has had since 2016. I lost my buddy of 7 years because of this. If I can stop anyone else from buying it, and protect their family, that would bring me some peace. Please do not purchase this item.

Two things that are stressed when purchasing a turtle: They need a basking platform and they need to have enough water equivalent to 1.5 their length. Once your turtle grows, oh and it will, you can look all over and you'll never find a platform tall enough to accomodate the depth of water you need. I have done the DIY basking platforms, primarily bc I'm cheap and didn't want to pay that much money. There are numerous ways to make one.

Best basking Platform out there

This is the best basking floating device out there for turtles. It is durable, last quit a long time. It handles the heat of the lamps pretty well. It's large, which is great for large or multiple turtles. It beats the suction cup ones any day.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Product doesn't suck to bottom of tank, and sinks when turtles get on. Turtles don't like wont use. Good idea if it worked as advertised.

I own a female Red Eared Slider turtle. At first, she was terrified of the thing, and it took some coaxing with food, and teaching her how to go up the ramp before she would go onto it on her own. Now she loves it because it is big enough for her to move around on, and relax. However she was scared of it at first. I think it looks cute, and if your turtle has an issue with it. Try leading them up the ramp and on the deck with their favorite treat, that's what I did with my girl.

Yes, I recommend this product.

i have a 20 gallon tank and ive been reading and it says it wont fit and im not sure if u should buy it plz i really need help also i have a 1 inch red eared slider

  1. This may be a bit large for a 20 gallon. Is is 12 in wide & 18inchs long. It uses water to float so it can sit low in water. I will tell you this is a heavy duty product as it last n lasts even with the heated lamp beating down on it. For a small turtle the platforms with the suction work well, large basking rocks work welll or build one side of tank up with rock/sand. Small turtles only need about 3 inches of water or lots of floating things to get on.

will it fit a 20 gallon tank

  1. No, it's way too big. Unless you're okay with it taking over half of the tank.

Would this thing fit in a 20 gallon fish tank

  1. That is what I have it in. It takes up almost half of the tank. But the turtles can swim under the floating part of the pier. My turtles love it!

Hello, Petco. I am very interested in the large Penn-Plax floating turtle pier basking platform. I have a very large red eared slider. She weighs 8 lbs and is 10” by 9.5”. Will the large basking platform be suitable for her? Thank you.

  1. Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, your turtle may be a bit too large for the Turtle Pier. The weight of the turtle may push the dock into the water, rendering it useless.

How do I keep the ramp from falling off? It gets dislodged at least once a week, and turtle can't get back up.

  1. maybe u could put a flat rock under the ramp; make sure its a heavy flat rock or square rock;

What size tank is recommended for this dock?

  1. Hi SamanthaThompson, You can use this in tanks starting from 18"W x 24"L x 18"H. Thanks

Does the protect have good suction cups?

  1. Hi Olivia, Thanks for your question. Yes, this product comes with heavy duty suction cups.In order to achieve the best fit for the suction cups, please ensure that any gravel or substrate in the bottom of the tank has been moved away from the area where the suction cups will sit to provide a strong seal. Once the suction cups are secure, move the gravel or substrate back over them.

What is the height of this pier?

  1. Can you use this dock in the garden pond? thank you

will a full grown red ear slider fit on the large sized?

  1. My 2 do!

How tall can the Peir stand?

  1. Hey Dean82, Thanks for your question. You shouldn't have any problem with the Turtle Pier in your breeder tank. The Turtle Pier includes extension posts designed to fit deeper aquariums.
