Do’s and Dont’s for Chinchilla owners!

This is probably the only chinchilla-safe food you can buy from pet stores. Chinchilla owners: DO NOT feed your chinchilla anything outside of plain pellet and hay! They CANNOT have: fruits, veg, nuts, seeds, anything with high sugars will give them major health conditions. They as well CANNOT have paper (carefresh) bedding, they chew constantly and it will swell and they will die. Aspen or pine are great and help absorb the smell too! Plastic should never be in the cage. Kiln dried pine or all metal are great for ledges, and you can use anti pill or blizzard fleece to make hideaways for them. Water bottle, not dish should be used in cage!

My friend gave me a bag of Oxbow to try out. My five chinchillas love these pellets! I was told these pellets provide better nutrients to the chins but they just love it!

I have been feeding my chinchilla this food for over 9 years. He is very healthy, which I know this food is largely responsible for his health. He has only slowed down a little with age, but one has to stare hard while watching him play to see that! I have never had a problem with this food, not once have I seen a food recall on Oxbow products. That is a huge plus for me since there have been so many food recalls lately. I usually order the 25lb bag of Oxbow since it is cheaper to buy in bulk and it lasts my chinchilla about 6 months. I usually mix dried rose hips into his food since it is a healthy treat that helps with filing down his teeth and also it has a high amount of Vitamin C, which helps boost his immune system.

I have always fed my chinchilla Oxbow Essentials Chinchilla deluxe. He has always been very healthy. I would recommend this brand to anyone who owns a chinchilla. By the way, my chinchilla, Toby, will be 19 yrs old in November of this year.
