I bought two of these at a local Petco pet store and gave it to my gerbils. One of my boys got the hay off the outside of the ball and then dragged some twine up to the top of his cage. I freaked out and pulled out the twine. Anything like twine or string can be dangerous as the gerbil will eat it or eat parts of it and then it will get into intestines (or wrapped around paws or fingers) and cause injury or death. I was able to catch it in time and completely cleaned both of my gerbils' cages, but I'm shocked that Oxbow is recommending this for gerbils. Definitely not for gerbils!

This hay ball was a hit with my guinea pigs and gerbils! I love Oxbow and have tried most of their Enriched Life toys, but have found that I keep rebuying the same few toys that seem more popular than others, and this is one of those rebought ones :). If you have gerbils or guinea pigs, I'd recommend at least giving this one a try because it's pretty inexpensive and mine seem to enjoy chewing on it.
