We love Oxbow but...

Product-wise, I would give 5/5. My rabbits love this hay, but the last 2 bags I bought have been nothing but the orchard grass (which they don't like by itself). I like getting the blends because of their perfect mixture & not having to buy 2 separate bags of hay, but it looks like that might be the better option now since I won't know if it's going to be a mixture of both hay or just the grass again :(

Yes, I recommend this product.

Bunny Loves It

Poochiemama

I bought this for the bunny I adopted after fostering her for months. She went crazy over it. I'm not a connoisseur of hay. This blend did not seem any fresher than the hay my local humane society provided for free while I fostered Daisy girl. But she wouldn't stop eating it the first week or so. The hay was packed so tightly in the plastic bag that I could hardly dig it out, even with a small garden tool. I ended up with splinters in a couple of fingers and even in the bottom of my foot, though I'm not sure how my foot ended up in the hay. Since it was expensive on my budget and I needed a bunch of hay to change her litter box, I went to a feed store and got a larger size Timothy hay for a lot less money. A plus is that it comes in a cardboard box rather than a plastic bag. The feed store person also said that people cut open the plastic and dump the hay in another container, which I did, and no more stuck hay or splinters. I also don't notice a difference in freshness between the Oxbow and the other brand. I gave this blend five stars based on Daisy's devouring it.

Yes, I recommend this product.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Smells very fresh green almost like good green tea. All three rabbits, each has its own food preference like this hay. After open the bag, fresh smell decrease gradually. That is not a problem for us because biggest bag last only ten days. By the way, Oxbow's orchard hay, oat hay is great too.

Bag of Crumbs

Binkley

I usually buy the 90 ounce bag of this hay. That size was not available the day I shopped, so I bought this bag. When I get to the bottom of the 90 oz bag it is the norm that the hay in the bottom is small pieces, "crumbs". I threw that out before going to buy this bag. I was disappointed that when I opened this bag I found crumbs. So far this is a bag of crumb size pieces.

No, I do not recommend this product.

My first time buying this hay. Is it always so difficult to get handfuls of hay out of the plastic bag? It is so tightly packed.

  1. Yes, I always find the top quarter or so of the bag difficult to get out. They switched packaging a couple of years ago, and it used to be much looser packed

I have a 3 month old holland lop bunny that I’ve already been feeding this for 2 weeks, I JUST read that orchard grass should be for 6m+ but this product doesn’t mention age, is this not ok?

  1. Hey ChristyK16; I could answer the question so I took a extra step for you here is the answer and this is where I got it:Hello Ken,   Thank you for contacting Oxbow Animal Health with your inquiry. We recommend Alfalfa hay for young rabbits. It is higher in calcium and protein so it is perfect for growing bunnies. That being said, the Orchard Grass is not bad for them, I would just get your rabbit switched over when you can. It's even better if you pick up some Alfalfa and mix the two together. We recommend feeding rabbits a variety of hays, this helps them get used to different flavors and textures and can prevent picky eating tendencies later on. They should be getting mostly the alfalfa though.   We have a wonderful blog on caring for young small mammals that you might find helpful. You can find it here: https://www.oxbowanimalhealth.com/blog/how-to-care-for-young-small-mammals   Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions. I am always happy to help! Congratulations on your new little friend!   Best regards, Pattie

how many times can you feed a hamster with this

    can hamsters have this?

is this good for a syrian hamster?

      1. I’m no expert but, as far as I know, hamsters are not required to have hay, but it can help stimulate foraging behaviors and it’s not an issue if they eat it because it just adds fiber to their diet. Also, hay can be used for their bedding, in addition to paper bedding or as a more natural substitution.

is this product good for mice?

      1. Although they might not eat it, I think they would like to nest and play in the hay.

      Is this product 2nd cut?

      1. Not sure but my guineas love it!!  They are also REALLY PICKY EATERS so anytime they eat what I buy its a blessing!! My guineas would rather have 2nd cut they do not eat 1st cut AT ALL so this must be 2nd! Sry if this doesn’t!! And your welcome if it does help!

is this good for new dwraf hamsters?

      1. Hamsters don't eat hay! If you put it in their enclosures, they won't know what to do with it!
