Because your cat or kitten is unique and ORIJEN pet foods are packed with animal protein, feeding requirements will vary with environment, age and activity. That's why we suggest using the feeding guide as a starting point, and monitoring your cat or kitten's weight and adjusting amounts as needed. We also recommend feeding your cat twice daily and always keeping fresh, clean water available. When switching diets, it's important to transition your cat or kitten as it takes time for their digestive system to adapt to the richer nutrient levels in ORIJEN. Over a 10-14 day period, gradually mix in ORIJEN, increasing the amount each day so that by day 14 you are feeding 100% ORIJEN. See your veterinarian regularly. To help maintain freshness, we recommend sealing the bag tightly and storing it in a cool, dry location.

ORIJEN Cat Food

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We were pleasantly surprised at the high quality of this kibble. Our cats moreso than us, though. Our one, usually very picky kitty, devours it, our other cat does as well. Noticeable difference in both their coats in just a couple weeks on this food. Noticeable weight gain too... in this case that was much wanted/needed. Great stuff... highly recommended!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I loved this for my cats, almost as much as they loved it, which is a lot. They ate this a lot faster then their normal food. I love the resealable bag! You can literally smell what the food is made of and it doesn't have that typical cat food smell! The ingredients list is amazing!

My cat is FIV positive. He’s not supposed to eat raw food. I’m feeding him Orijen which has the first 6 ingredients listed as “raw”. After looking it up online and AI it says safe for cats that can’t eat raw food. It basically is cooked with just a spray of raw ingredients. Just checking to make sure it’s safe for him to eat. It’s the only food I’ve found that he likes, and will eat. Please advise. Thanks. Pam Hipsley

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love my cat and always buy good stuff for her especially food. Cat is a carnivore creature, and they should eat food that is grain free. This dry cat food from Orijen is made of six types of fish which is high in protein and omage 3 fatty acid. The size of the kernels are just right, not too big. The transition from her old one to this was pretty smooth. She hasn’t had any problems. I’m glad she loves it and I know it is better for her health. Will continue to buy it

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It did not negatively effect my cats diet or GI system. Very easy switch. He ate it up the first couple days fast and then sort of left it until he was very hungry after. Still seems like a wholesome good product

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This brand of cat food is such a high quality brand with extremely great nutrition. There are six types of seafood that are all wild caught. The food also incorporates different fruits, vegetables and legumes. I really like that the ingredients are things I know and can pronounce. My cats really like this cat food, even the cat that's typically finicky about what she eats. They ate this cat food and I feel like they really liked it just by the fact that they ate all of it. I really enjoy giving my cats a high quality cat food such as this

Quality dry food with strong fish odor

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Cats are carnivores and should be fed a grain free diet. Having named fish products instead of generic fish means your cat is getting a great source of omegas. You can’t really go wrong with it. The fish odor is very strong which could be a turn off for some.

What is the size and shape of this kibble? I purchased this for years and it was small round pieces, then about 4 years ago the pieces changed and had very sharp edges. I'm feeding this to a toothless cat so I need to be sure it won't tear up his gums.

  1. Hi there! The difference may be due to the natural variation that can happen with our diets. We formulate our recipes using plenty of fresh and raw ingredients. As a result, there can be some natural variation between individual lots, or even the same bag. To chat more about options feel free to reach out to our care team by emailing: customercare@championpetfoods.com

What is the calories per cup of this dry food? Or the calories per gram if that is easier.

  1. There are 445 calories per cup of kibble.

Is this manufactured in US or CAN? Did a little research.  Seems the one made in US has bad quality compare to CAN.

  1. We have two state-of-the-art kitchens, all of our diets available in the US are made in our Kentucky DogStar kitchens. We operate our kitchens with the same standards and using the same quality of ingredients. Our Customer Care team would be happy to provide additional information on our quality standards, please feel free to reach out at customercare@championpetfoods.com or 877-939-0006.

My cat has dry itchy skin which food would be best?

  1. I’d actually suggest a vet evaluation to rule out out allergies to specific proteins (a common trigger that can actually be worsened if allergy is to fish, for example), fleas or flea treatment (even if product had been used regularly for years), dry skin (which can be helped by diet & supplements) or even some type of skin infection (which needs a specific treatment).   Should the vet determine it’s simple dry skin and cat needs a supplement & high protein diet, then I can heartily recommend any of the Orijen Diets!   I’ve fed Cat & Kitten (Chicken), 6 Fishes, Red (meat) & Tundra (meat & fish) to my four and they’ve all been well accepted.   It has helped with keeping costs thick & glossy, constipation (from another brands hairball formula) and some reduction in hairballs (more than with the hairball formula!). My first adopted indoor cat was a hoarder rescue and grossly malnourished with a horrible, dry, brittle coat.   It took a year and two brands of kibble before she had a shiny, silken coat.  2 years ago, I changed to Orijen because of young kittens refusal to eat any kitten specific kibble!     Couldn’t be more pleased and the skin & coats of all 4 are wonderful.  Basically, vet first to evaluate the itching, then a plan of action to best Address the problem.

I've heard this specific food is good for ferrets as well. Is this true?

  1. Yes but not this flavor. Origen kitten is the highest quality dry ferret feed I've found .

I would like to try a new brand of dry food but what are the differences between this and the Acana atlantic fish. They look so similar

  1. The biggest difference I can see is that Orijen Six Fish has 40% protein, while Acana Wild Atlantic has 35% protein.

I have a 13 yr. old cat that is diabetic, is this good for him.

  1. I run a senior/hospice cat rescue and have cats with kidney disease, cardiac disease, and cancer. My personal cat had diabetes, dilated cardiomyopathy, hyperthyroidism, and GI Lymphoma all at the same time. I feed my cats (personal and rescue foresters) nothing but Orijen. Orijen Six fish is low in carbs (17%) which is great for a diabetic cat. Chaucer did well on this food and did not have any trouble with it spiking his glucose. I believe in feeding grain free, but learned after doing some research that grain free does not mean carb free or even low carb. I've calculated carb %s on many popular grain free dry cat foods and found it can range from 25% all the way up to a whopping 54%--all which are too high for a diabetic cat. My vet said it is an excellent food to feed. Their bags used to say Low Glycemic but the new packaging doesn't say that anymore but does give you the % of carbs, The only other low glycemic dry cat food I know of is Nutrisca. I believe it comes in 2 flavors, chicken and a salmon flavor.
