Because your cat or kitten is unique and ORIJEN pet foods are packed with animal protein, feeding requirements will vary with environment, age and activity. That's why we suggest using the feeding guide as a starting point, and monitoring your cat or kitten's weight and adjusting amounts as needed. We also recommend feeding your cat twice daily and always keeping fresh, clean water available. When switching diets, it's important to transition your cat or kitten as it takes time for their digestive system to adapt to the richer nutrient levels in ORIJEN. Over a 10-14 day period, gradually mix in ORIJEN, increasing the amount each day so that by day 14 you are feeding 100% ORIJEN. See your veterinarian regularly. To help maintain freshness, we recommend sealing the bag tightly and storing it in a cool, dry location.

Should be called Stinky Cat

virtualjack

We got this food because our cat got a cold and was off her food. We read that you should try to feed smelly food to a sick cat because they could be congested qnd it worked. We buy small amounts and put it in a container to keep it fresh and smelly. She eats wet food and mooches from the dog so I don’t what it is like for her to only eat this. If you are concerned about the quality and nutrition (I was), do some research on what to look for and ask Orijen about who they have on staff. From what I can tell, Orijen checks out but your criteria might be different.

Good diverse fish dry food, picky cat approved

obat

Our picky cat likes this dry food and the six fish recipe equally - she has a bowl of each at all times. I picked these because of their ingredients lists and because the food she used to eat was discontinued. She seems to be partial to fish - her favorite two wet foods are also fish flavored.

Yes, I recommend this product.

New formula isn’t soo good, no dehydrated fish

Muhammad TA

New formula doesn’t include dehydrated animal protein, it doesn’t matter that first 10 ingredients are fresh or raw fish because it’s 80% water so once the fresh or raw fish is dehydrated is going to decrease a lot in volume and go down the ingredient list, previous formula assured us one third of ingredients from dehydrated fish which was much better, lentils and peas are plants high in carbs and their protein is unbalanced for cats, and it lacks taurine, recent studies are checking the relationship between free grain diets and heart problems in cats, I wish they could include back the dehydrated fish in the formula because fresh is almost purely water and bones

My cat ate it but it made her horribly sick

KellyFromLI

My cat has been dealing with skin issues so I decided to try this food. She loves fish so she did eat this right away with no hesitation. However, 10 days after eating this, she started throwing up everything that she ate (dry and wet food, fed together). She threw up 6 times in one day. I had to take her to the vet to get checked out. After fluids and anti-nausea medication she seemed better. I started to feed her small amounts of wet and dry food, but separately. After about 30 min of having eaten only the dry food, she started to drool and foam at the mouth. Happened twice and didn't happen at all with wet food (Fancy Feast grilled). I just read a lot of other reviews saying that this also made other cats vomit. Thankfully, Petco has a great return policy.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Six Fish™ - My cat craves it

johnnym

My cat loves food in general and I can put it on a scale from 1-10 just by watching and listening to her while she is eating and the Six Fish is definetely a 10. She purrs like crazy when eating this just like it was canned food. Shame she is overweight and I can't feed her more, her meals are over within a minute and everything is gobbled up.

Cat is allergic to chicken, thank you for Six Fish

I have one cat that is terribly allergic to chicken/ poultry products. He absolutely loves Six Fish. My other cats try to eat his food so I have to separate them. His skin has cleared up and no more excessive scratching and pulling his fur out . Please keep it chicken and poultry FREE.

I've been buying this cat food product for about 18 months. I switched from well known "premium" type retail kibble after learning more about the ingredients found in even some of the most expensive cat food products. My two 2 year old cats thoroughly liked and ate this brand but I felt I wanted to provide my cats with a much higher quality food that contained no animal by products, grains or other non nutritious ingredients. I did the correct mixing to help my cats get acclimated to the Orijen kibble. Our cats have shown a strong attraction to this Orijen and even when I give them a small portion of meat only soft food before their dry food, they still definitely prefer their Orijen. My only issue is the cost which for a retiree is hard to justify except for the love and concern I have for my two furbabies. My hope is that this super high quality cat food will help keep our cats healthy for many more years.

Yes, I recommend this product.

What is the size and shape of this kibble? I purchased this for years and it was small round pieces, then about 4 years ago the pieces changed and had very sharp edges. I'm feeding this to a toothless cat so I need to be sure it won't tear up his gums.

  1. Hi there! The difference may be due to the natural variation that can happen with our diets. We formulate our recipes using plenty of fresh and raw ingredients. As a result, there can be some natural variation between individual lots, or even the same bag. To chat more about options feel free to reach out to our care team by emailing: customercare@championpetfoods.com

What is the calories per cup of this dry food? Or the calories per gram if that is easier.

  1. There are 445 calories per cup of kibble.

Is this manufactured in US or CAN? Did a little research.  Seems the one made in US has bad quality compare to CAN.

  1. We have two state-of-the-art kitchens, all of our diets available in the US are made in our Kentucky DogStar kitchens. We operate our kitchens with the same standards and using the same quality of ingredients. Our Customer Care team would be happy to provide additional information on our quality standards, please feel free to reach out at customercare@championpetfoods.com or 877-939-0006.

My cat has dry itchy skin which food would be best?

  1. I’d actually suggest a vet evaluation to rule out out allergies to specific proteins (a common trigger that can actually be worsened if allergy is to fish, for example), fleas or flea treatment (even if product had been used regularly for years), dry skin (which can be helped by diet & supplements) or even some type of skin infection (which needs a specific treatment).   Should the vet determine it’s simple dry skin and cat needs a supplement & high protein diet, then I can heartily recommend any of the Orijen Diets!   I’ve fed Cat & Kitten (Chicken), 6 Fishes, Red (meat) & Tundra (meat & fish) to my four and they’ve all been well accepted.   It has helped with keeping costs thick & glossy, constipation (from another brands hairball formula) and some reduction in hairballs (more than with the hairball formula!). My first adopted indoor cat was a hoarder rescue and grossly malnourished with a horrible, dry, brittle coat.   It took a year and two brands of kibble before she had a shiny, silken coat.  2 years ago, I changed to Orijen because of young kittens refusal to eat any kitten specific kibble!     Couldn’t be more pleased and the skin & coats of all 4 are wonderful.  Basically, vet first to evaluate the itching, then a plan of action to best Address the problem.

I've heard this specific food is good for ferrets as well. Is this true?

  1. Yes but not this flavor. Origen kitten is the highest quality dry ferret feed I've found .

I would like to try a new brand of dry food but what are the differences between this and the Acana atlantic fish. They look so similar

  1. The biggest difference I can see is that Orijen Six Fish has 40% protein, while Acana Wild Atlantic has 35% protein.

I have a 13 yr. old cat that is diabetic, is this good for him.

  1. I run a senior/hospice cat rescue and have cats with kidney disease, cardiac disease, and cancer. My personal cat had diabetes, dilated cardiomyopathy, hyperthyroidism, and GI Lymphoma all at the same time. I feed my cats (personal and rescue foresters) nothing but Orijen. Orijen Six fish is low in carbs (17%) which is great for a diabetic cat. Chaucer did well on this food and did not have any trouble with it spiking his glucose. I believe in feeding grain free, but learned after doing some research that grain free does not mean carb free or even low carb. I've calculated carb %s on many popular grain free dry cat foods and found it can range from 25% all the way up to a whopping 54%--all which are too high for a diabetic cat. My vet said it is an excellent food to feed. Their bags used to say Low Glycemic but the new packaging doesn't say that anymore but does give you the % of carbs, The only other low glycemic dry cat food I know of is Nutrisca. I believe it comes in 2 flavors, chicken and a salmon flavor.
