I only used the product for one week. I accidentally left it out on the counter overnight so had to throw it away. I don't think I can give a fair review for this reason. I will need to try a capsule form next time.

Strong fish smell

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’m not sure how to rate this product. My 1 year old maltipoo liked it. I cut open the capsule and poured it onto her food. She ate it up with no problem. I on the other hand did not like the strong fishy smell. I also didn’t like that I had to cut it open. I know it’s good for her but I just can’t stand the fish breath!

Has Something Changed?

Otto’s Human

Our dog loves to eat and it’s always easy to just drop this fish oil pill in with his food. He has always eaten it with no issue. With this last bottle, he leaves it behind or we have actually found it sitting next to his bowl as though he has picked it out. Just curious if it has a different flavor?

My pet seems tolerate the product. It came with a support dropper. I am still evaluating the results of the product. I did notice my pet coat was shiny.

Pills too big for dogs under 25 lbs.

Ana A

While the product does have the NASC certification, which drew me to it, the issue is the pills are way too big for any dog that is not medium or large. My dogs range from 15 to 20 pounds and they will not eat it in their food, because it’s way too large to cover in a treat, and if you try to force feed them, you could definitely choke them. It is absolutely not worth that risk. So I’ve asked the company to make the pills smaller and in that way, you give more pills at a time, but at least you could cover them in something they could eat naturally in food or if you do have to force feed them, It’s small enough that it would not choke them. I was using a liquid form but the entire house smelled like fish 24 seven which is not the best smell so that is why I went to pills but because they are so large, it was a useless futile change and these honestly are 3 to 4 times more expensive than certified oils that are not in capsule form

My vet suggested fish oil for my dogs allergies, so after researching all the fish oils for pets I found that this one is highly recommended and my dog does not mind it added to her food.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Big pills

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Was looking forward to using these because my pup is getting older and to ensure her joints are healthy and lubricated. The only concern is the size of the pill and the need to open it up to put over her food. I've put pills down her throat before but would be reluctant for this 1 due to size. May be better to just have an oil itself not in pill form.

Questions

Does the bottle of Nordic Naturals Omega-3 Pet Fish Oil Liquid come with a pump attachment or a dropper?

  1. The 2 oz. bottle for cats and small dogs comes with a dropper, but the larger bottles do not. You can contact Nordic Naturals customer service at 800-662-2544 to answer any questions you may have.

Why is there such a large variety in recommended fish oil volume and omega doses? The Wild Alaskan brand of salmon oil recommends 4x more per day (4ml vs 1ml; 1028 mg omega-3 vs 248 mg omega-3) for the same size cat.

  1. That is an awnser for an Animal Vet. I give my Big dog a table spoon with her dinner everyday. And my 3 year old cat, we feed him some Chicken of the Sea tuna, in water, 50% less sodium with his dry food. I believe if you mix it with their wet food, a tea spoon should be enough? Talk to your Vets to be sure.

My cat won’t eat his canned food when this is applied to it! I now squirt the dropper inside my cat’s mouth! It says on the box not to do this! WHY???

  1. I give my cat, Tuna in water, Chicken of the sea, 50% less sodium. Just a little every day. That should contain the Omega - 3 oils. I only give the Omega-3 oils to my dog. She doesn't taste it on her food. Or try real tuna with a little Omega-3 oil I hope this helps.
