If I'm paying a premium price, I expect to be getting a premium food. 10% protein content is not premium in my book. There are similarly priced or cheaper wet foods from competitors that have a higher protein content AND no unnecessary ingredients. Which brings me to my next issue... the unnecessary ingredients. When I open a can of premium cat food, I am not expecting to see an overprocessed meat blob with carrots and WHOLE peas packed in. A cat is an obligate carnivore - how exactly do peas benefit them? They don't. Studies have even shown that peas and other legumes inhibit taurine absorption. Taurine is a critically important nutrient for cats, and taurine deficiency causes irreversible blindness. Taurine deficiency also prevents heart muscles from functioning properly, which leads to congestive heart failure. There is no reason for an obligate carnivore that heavily depends on taurine to eat food containing legumes!! Buy a different food, y'all. There are better wet foods (higher protein, no legumes/corn/potatoes/soy/wheat) to be found directly across the shelf or an aisle over from this Instinct gunk. P.S. this food contains several pork products, which is not disclosed anywhere on the advertising or packaging except for the fine print of the ingredients list. This is NOT a single protein, rabbit only food.

No, I do not recommend this product.

My cat likes the original big can, lots of juice and meat looks better quality. I don't really know what is up with this new ultimate protein formula as it has the same ingredients in the same order with identical stats. The food looks identical to the original small can. My cat likes the original well enough so I thought this would be even better, but two out of two cans made her puke almost immediately... not normal for her. I'm returning the remaining 22 cans and will go back to the original. Stop messing with a good thing.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Real Rabbit protein

Have had a hard time getting limited ingredient food with single protein for my cats. As soon as we try 1 and they like it it becomes hard to find. Fortunately this Instinct one with rabbit was available at this time. Not the ideal choice but our female cat seems to be tolerating it well.

Yes, I recommend this product.

My cat says this is the best tasting rabbit he has eaten. It is his main protein, as he cannot eat chicken, and many other rabbit formulas also contain chicken. This is the only one he will eat, and the quality has been consistent.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Our cats are obsessed with instincts recipes!! So much so we’ve tried presenting other brands and they take a sniff and don’t want anything to do with it unless it’s instinct. I know it’s crazy but they can actually tell!!

Yes, I recommend this product.

What is the difference between the original instinct canned cat food and the ultimate protein canned cat food? It look like the list and order of ingredients are the same.

  1. Hi There! The canned Ultimate Protein shares the same recipe as the canned Original. We have many Ultimate Protein kibble feeders who were wanting an easy way to identify a wet food that best matched their dry diet. Though they are the same formula, the label difference just makes it easier for those consumers. Thanks!
