Our dog has been on this limited ingredient salmon

Bailee7

After several years of using the salmon limited ingredient diet for our food sensitive dog, we’ve noticed a change in the color of the kibble. It went from a lighter tan color to a darker brown color. In addition our dog’s bowel habits changed to an undesirable odor, consistency, and color. I can’t help but think you have changed something in the food that is negatively affecting our dog’s digestion. It’s so disappointing. Now we will have to find something that she can eat without these issues.

Have had my large breed dog in this and was wondering why there is no taurine in it? When you read other dog food labels you see it in the ingredients listed.

My 3 year old pup loves it, smells great good for sensitive skin. However she has gained 2 pounds weight after 3 months on it. Vet said she is slightly overweight. And when I revisit the analysis ii found the crude fat 21% which is totally abnormally high. Don't think it's suitable for a less active dog like mine. Altho it's a great product I think I have to find other alternative

Epilepsy

My male cane corso is 3yrs +, and he has been on Basic instinct for 2 years, and he got his 1st seizure in June 4th, 2023, he has been getting mal seizures every 2 or 3 months. It is January 4th, 2024, and has had 10 seizures started on Saturday, February 3rd. I am going to have put him down, because it is inhumane make an animal suffer. I believe it's food, there is an investigation currently ongoing into the top food brands and the alarmingly high amount of dogs getting seizures. This is a serious issue that needs to be looked @ , I have never had any of dogs that developed seizures and this occurred after putting Saber on this dog food for 2 years, no issues prior...

Our dogs have severe food allergies and this is the only food they are able to eat. They are allergic to flax seed, tomato, grains and all animal proteins except for lamb and rabbit. Thank you for having this product available.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 10 of 10 Questions
Sort by: Newest Answers

Can I give this to my pregnant shiba inu? And how much should I give to her daily if she’s 10kg?

  1. Hello! Our Limited Ingredient Lamb kibble is for adult maintenance only, so it isn't suitable for a pregnant/nursing mother. Thanks!

Is this food recommended for a dog with frequent skin yeast infections?

  1. I would suggest it. My dog had severe allergies and infections and this food did not cause any reactions. I also feed him a. Lot of aloe Vera cristals fresh from the plant.

Does this dog food need to be kept in the freezer?

  1. Hi There! No, our kibble recipes should be kept in a cool dry place such as a pantry. Thanks!

I noticed that this food is very stinky. Is that normal?

  1. Hi There! Each kibble recipe may have a distinct odor to people depending on their senses. Also, keep in mind that since it is an all natural product, color, texture and odor can all vary. Thanks!

Can we give this to a senior dog?

  1. I would not give any of my dogs grain free food. Read article about canine heart disease before giving grain free food

Hi would this be suitable for a 9 month old french bulldog?

  1. Hi There! Our Limited Ingredient Diets are for adult maintenance only, so it wouldn't be suitable for a puppy. Once your pup is about a year, you can transition into the LID recipes. Thanks!

Can I feed this particular type to a 16 week old puppy?

  1. Hi there, my name is Missy and I work with Instinct. While many of our kibbles are complete and balanced for small and medium breed puppies, our Limited Ingredient is not one of them. I recommend checking out our Raw Boost Puppy formula, or for large dogs, our Raw Boost Large Breed Puppy formula.

My golden is on instinct raw boost dry chicken formula and she LOVES it but her waste is huge and crumbly and hard to clean up. Is there something I can add or should I try another formula?

  1. Hi Susan, this is not typical of our recipes so we recommend reaching out to your vet to see if they have any recommendations on ingredients or supplements to incorporate into your pets diet.

Seems like a lot of fat

What is the animal protein vs plant and other protein percentage? Also are all the ingredients sourced in the USA and USDA approved? Thanks

    1. Hi Trailrunner, In our Instinct Limited Ingredient Diet Canine Lamb Kibble, 55.4% of the protein is from animal and 44.6% is from plant and other proteins. Our lamb is from the U.S.; our vegetables are from the U.S. and Europe; our herbs and spices are from North America, Europe, and the Middle East; our vitamins and minerals are from North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. All of the ingredients used in our food are obtained from USDA-inspected facilities and from animals that have passed inspection.
