Ideal feeding amounts will vary by age, weight, and activity level so the guide below should be used as an initial recommendation. Divide the cups per day by the number of feedings per day. Be sure to always provide clean, fresh water. Along with dry food, we recommend feeding raw or wet food to help increase the amount of water in your pet's diet. Daily Feeding Guidelines (standard 8 oz dry measuring cup): Adult Maintenance (cups per day): 5 lb: 3/8 cup; 10 lb: 5/8 cup; 15 lb: 7/8 cup, Weight Loss (cups per day): 5 lb: 1/4 cup; 10 lb: 3/8 cup; 15 lb: 5/8 cup, Kittens: Feed up to twice the adult maintenance amount. Pregnant/Nursing Females: Feed up to three times the adult maintenance amount shown above. Transitioning to Instinct: Always introduce a new food over a period of 5 to 7 days, mixing increasing amounts of Instinct with the current food each day.

Love Instinct Original

I've been feeding Instinct Original pretty much since the company was founded. I don't buy it for the raw and specifically stick to Original because it has the least raw properties. I buy because the ingredients are the best out there for high animal based protein and fat with the other ingredients being species relevant instead of filler. I'm grateful you switched Original's raw coating to fish from chicken. With fish being the only raw ingredient and worried about the latest version of the bird flu, Original seems safer. I know raw is what you market but I wish you also had options for the same high quality food without any raw.

Cat getting sick

I have been feeding my cat this limited ingredient Rabbit food for over a year with no issue. I just purchased her a new bag and the kibble is smaller and now she is vomiting with loose stools.

Bad bag

Just bought a bag and it's full of bugs. I had picked up another bag of the rabbit and there were webs all over the bag. So I got the chicken thinking it would be okay.

Upset Tummy :(

My first cat did totally fine with this food, when I adopted my second cat he started having major #2 problems. I tried ALMOST everything (probiotics, prebiotics, fiber, clay, digestive enzymes, LID wet food), it took months before I considered that this food could have been causing the problem. I still don't know exactly was the problem was for the little guy... maybe he needs grains or maybe the raw coating was messing him up. I really think the ingredients in this food are better quality than most. If your kitty starts having problems, then this food just doesn't agree with them.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Made my cat constipated

oreo22

MADE MY CAT HAVE DIGESTIVE ISSUES. I bought this because it had good reviews and seemingly high quality ingredients, but after a few months of being on it my cat's poo became abnormally yellow and pebble like. I searched up the symptoms and found out he's constipated. After feeding him canned food for a bit his poo returned to normal. But when I changed back to Instinct, it became abnormal again and I would even find poo in different places of the house like he couldn't control holding it before he gets to the litterbox. His poo was more normal and healthy when he was on a much cheaper brand dry food before I switched to Instinct, I wouldn't buy this product again for my cat's health.

No, I do not recommend this product.

To the manufacturer: Why do you put menadion sodium bisulfite (sp?) in this food? Obviously if we are willing to pay this much for a good quality food, we expect real vitamin K and not menadione sodium bisulfiite

  1. I'm sorry, but you'll have to send your question to the manufacturing company's contact email. They won't see it posted on this page.ย

What does the food look like?

  1. Hi there, my name is Missy and I work with Instinct. Our cat kibble look like brown round discs that are about 0.5 cm. in diameter.

Would this food be recommended for a Fiv positive cat? Concerned that the label says "contains a source of live, naturally occurring microorganisms ". Are ingredients really "raw"?

  1. Hello! Although our food is formulated to meet all AAFCO nutrient requirements to be complete and balanced for all life stages, itโ€™s not formulated for special needs pets. For pets with special needs, we recommend consulting with your trusted veterinarian to choose the right food. If your vet has certain nutrient requirements, we will be happy to work with them to try to find a good diet for your pet. The temperature of the product during the extrusion process is a minimum of 185 degrees Fahrenheit. The product is then transferred to the dryer for 18-23 minutes at temperatures ranging from 200 to 280 degrees. That said, this product does contain a freeze-dried raw coating.

Are any of the "globally sourced ingredients" from China? I had a bad experience in the past with toxic stuff from China and my cats suffered for it.

  1. Hi cosmicrose, Thank you for your question, however, to further answer your inquiry, you may reach out to the manufacturer at 888-519-7387.
