The sand size is not as described. The reason why I wanted this sand is the size of the grain (I want it to be more corse than regular sand). However, when I received the sand, it's just like regular sand, the grain size is around 1mm

No, I do not recommend this product.

The "sand" is way to coarse, it's almost like a mixture of gravel and crushed coral.

No, I do not recommend this product.

This aragonite sand is off white color, measures 1.2 mm to 1.7 mm, reduces nitrates and helps to maintain a chemical balance. It also reduces the need for added chemicals and one should maintain regular water changes. The sand is fine size but great for African Cichlids. I plan o us this gravel in a African Cichlid setup. I was glad to purchase this gravel on sale at a great price.

Yes, I recommend this product.

The sand is exactly what is says it is. The granuals are small and look nice in the tank. Very few sticks and other debris. Covers the bottom nicely and mixes well with the live sand.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I am planning to get a 40-gallon freshwater aquarium and am looking for a substrate that is fine but a little bit course. I haven't found many options and am about to give up and just get gravel. Any suggestions?

  1. This is a very fine aragonite almost like powder. Fish that are sand sifters will love it but they also dust everything with it.

What would be a good thing to use when you have a fresh water tank?

  1. There are many alternatives to stone. Depending on the animals you intend to keep with it. For example, black blasting sand is great for a nice rich color, but you cannot use it with soft-bellied animals (like loaches or cories). For a blackwater tank to up the tannons, I've even used locally sourced topsoil. You'd have to sift it and rinse it well though (keeping in mind it will cloud the water for a while as it settles). Plain paver's sand or play sand (not dyed) is a good alternative too. My struggle right now is what to put in my brackish tank...
