This is a very fine aragonite almost like powder. Fish that are sand sifters will love it but they also dust everything with it.

There are many alternatives to stone. Depending on the animals you intend to keep with it. For example, black blasting sand is great for a nice rich color, but you cannot use it with soft-bellied animals (like loaches or cories). For a blackwater tank to up the tannons, I've even used locally sourced topsoil. You'd have to sift it and rinse it well though (keeping in mind it will cloud the water for a while as it settles). Plain paver's sand or play sand (not dyed) is a good alternative too. My struggle right now is what to put in my brackish tank...
