Is it safe to give my dog bones to chew on?
My dog swallowed a ham bone a couple of days ago. About one inch circumference and has been struggling to eliminate her bowels ever since. I have been giving her pumpkin hoping this would help move things along, but she is still struggling. She weighs about 55# and is about 10 years old. Can you give me any advice on helping her? We have a power chewer ! Since we adopted our Rhodesian mix at 4 mos , we have learned what chews are unsafe, and to supervise him . He does best with benebones, antlers, selects kings if they are solid . He slowly eats them, spits out kong pieces . We are used to hearing him contently chewing . We praise him. . He is very healthy and happy . The problem: I was hearing him chewing and it sounded different . He was eating my husbands leather shoe! He is challenging commands he knows as well! ??
Thank you for your response to my question regarding Brownies leaky eyes! I will try the Angel Eyes ASAP. While browsing through the question/answer forum I came across your advice regarding giving dogs cooked bones. It was DON'T do it! I'm feeling like a terrible Mom now because I buy the frozen soup bones at my local grocery store for Brownie as a treat. I cook one for 10-12 minutes (there is little to no meat on the bone, however inside is full of marrow which she LOVES) and then refrigerate.
Just recused this little guy... very malnourished, just started gaining some weight. He is missing many teeth so eating is a problem, he does he the small bites. Any other food you can recommend for weight gain, older dog with no teeth? Also a treat, maybe something that will dissolve, can he have gerber puffs baby snacks as treats???
